Finally, Oscar day has arrived. In just a few hours we’ll be getting our first glimpse of the frocks, shocks and glamour that is the Oscars. But while we wait to see if Cate can take out not one, but two golden statues (and look achingly beautiful as she does it), my mind will be preoccupied with the beauty looks from another film capital, one that’s a world away from the restrained classic glamour of Hollywood. Yes, I’m talking about Bollywood baby.
Think bright hues such as fuschias, corals, oranges and reds combined with golden sparkles and glitter. Nothing about Bollywood beauty is understated – it embraces colour whole-heartedly and most importantly, has fun with it. An easy way to rock this trend is with a splash of colour on your fingers or toes. The OPI India colour collection features high-energy shades combined with metallics and deep, dark shades. My fave is a tie between Curry Up Don’t Be Late, a spicy gold, and Black Cherry Chutney, a super dark black-red that’s perfect for the cooler months ahead.
For the more daring amongst us, why not try some sparkle with a jewel or two on the temple or between the brows (like the lovely Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses). SLA Creation Strass are perfect and come in a range of pretty colours. Or work those lips with I Nuovi Ivolux Lipstick in Shock, an intense fuschia.
If you’re looking for a more subtle way to go Bollywood, look no further than Aishwarya Rai. Once called the “most beautiful woman in the world” by Julia Roberts, Aishwarya effortlessly combines subtle, understated beauty with the glitz of Bollywood to look nothing less than amazing. The best bit is it couldn’t be easier to achieve Aishwarya’s look – she has her very own lipstick shade (a suits-everyone shade of beige) courtesy of the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riches Star Secrets Collection.
