How-to: chip-free nails

How-to: chip-free nails

Every woman out there knows the annoyance of spending 30 minutes painting your nails – or worse still, paying someone else to do it for you – only to have them chip less than 24-hours later. Is the world out to get me you’ll no doubt cry?

Well no, it’s not, but I do feel your pain. The outrage I experienced when my $80 mani chipped after two days was just too much to bear. But there is a solution out there and it goes by the name of Bio Sculpture Gels®. It’s a non-chip, smudge-proof, fade-resistant formula that sounds too good to be true but actually lives up to all of these promises.

It’s a professional treatment that can be used on fingers and toes – I opted for fingers so I didn’t have to remove my tights in this cold weather and selected Coral to brighten up these dark days. It costs around $60 and is money well spent in my opinion; not only does it dry insanely fast, last for four weeks (eight on toes!), it’s seemingly un-chipable, no matter what one does. Honestly I’ve tried.

The product is self-levelling so you don’t need to spend hours in the salon being buffed to within an inch of your life, each of the four coats – base, two coats of colour followed by a top coat – is painted on, then two minutes under a UVA lamp and you’re done.

As safety first is always my motto – after thou shalt apply bronzer – I checked if the old UV lamps are harmful in any way (the gel won’t dry without the UV light so it’s kinda essential in the whole thing) but my therapist assured me that there’s no hidden danger at all, the formula is ultra-conditioning and a safer alternative to acrylics as it’s free from harmful chemicals.

If you’re looking for a DIY alternative though, try these lovely long-lasting wonders…
