9 of the best toothpastes and treatments

Was it just us or did everybody else also experience temporarily blindness during Tuesday night’s episode of The Bachelor as Elly Miles flashed her brilliant white teeth all over our screens? The 24-year-old nurse from Newcastle had us dashing to the bathroom during the ad breaks to inspect our pearlers and question our toothpaste. And it seems the contender for Matt’s heart has always had a gleaming set… at least according to a healthy Instagram stalk:

Bachie fan or not, if you’re looking for a teeth-whitening product that actually works (and potentially score yourself a single date), you can thank Elly for spurring us on to do the research.

These bad boys get a minimum of 4 stars on bh – so they’re kind of a no brainer.

Oral-B 3D White Whitestrips

bh says: Coated with a tooth-whitening gel containing hydrogen peroxide, Oral-B 3D White Whitestrips are thin and flexible to help them conform to the shape of your teeth. Simply apply them to your teeth twice a day, for 30 minutes, to help whiten and remove stains.

You say: “These whitening strips are great! A friend mentioned how white my teeth were looking at lunch yesterday and I hadn’t told her I was using them (yay!).” – bh member nicole.613

Colgate Optic White

bh says: Colgate Optic White employs a gentle hydrogen peroxide formula to go beyond surface stain removal and deeply whiten teeth in four weeks. If you like this toothpaste, you’ll love Colgate Optic White™ Toothbrush + Built-In Whitening Pen, which is also among the top contenders!

You say: “I noticed [I had] whiter teeth within a few days! I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a good whitening toothpaste at an affordable price.” – bh member Beaulah

Opalescence Go Melon 10%

bh says: If you hate the taste of teeth-whitening treatments, Opalescence Go Melon 10% could be your new go-to. The melon flavour is completely inoffensive (trust me, I’ve tried it), but that’s not all: The whitening formula also contains potassium nitrate and fluoride to improve the overall health of your teeth.

You say: “I’ve used six trays so far and my teeth look super white. All my stains have gone and there is no more slightly-off white [colouring]. My teeth look glorious.” – bh member ray_jay

Colgate MaxWhite ONE Ice

bh says: Colgate MaxWhite ONE Ice is a whitening treatment that aims to improve the whiteness of your teeth in one week. The fresh formula contains whitening accelerators that work to remove surface stains, for a brighter, whiter smile.

You say: “I never expected to blind people with my pearly whites after seven days, but this toothpaste actually brightened and cleaned my teeth within one to two weeks of use.” – bh member Petite Pivoine

Pearl Drops 2 Day White

bh says: A speedy two-step teeth-whitening system, Pearl Drops 2 Day White is formulated to deliver visible results in as little as two days. Safe for enamel and sensitive teeth, it’s also suitable for use on dental restorations such as crowns, caps and veneers.

You say: “I woke up the morning after my first three treatments and had that ‘something’s different’ feeling when looking in the mirror. It took me a little while to notice that my teeth were significantly whiter!” – bh member Steph Speth

Colgate Advanced Whitening Toothpaste

bh says: Colgate Advanced Whitening Toothpaste is an oldie but a goodie (especially for beauties on a budget!). The formula contains microcrystals to gently polish teeth and help remove stains. It also fights plaque and cavities to promote healthy gums, as well as a stain-free smile!

You say: “This toothpaste tastes and looks exactly the same as an ordinary toothpaste. It cleans really well, leaves a fresh taste in your mouth and is a great toothpaste to use to keep your teeth white.” – bh member Sara888

Oral-B Pro-Health

bh says: Oral-B Pro-Health toothpaste is formulated to provide both oral health and whitening benefits. It contains stannous fluoride and sodium polymetaphosphate to help whiten teeth, as well as promote healthy gums, fresh breath, and reduced teeth sensitivity.

You say: “After a few washes I noticed a big difference and since then I [have] never bought a different toothpaste. My teeth were noticeably whiter and brighter than before, and my gums were also much healthier.” – bh member BlueBite

Lush Dirty Toothy Tabs

bh says: A solid formula that minimises the need for packaging and preservatives, Lush Dirty Toothy Tabs can be crushed in your mouth, before brushing as normal with your toothbrush. The tabs contain cream of tartar to whiten teeth, as well as help freshen bad breath.

You say: “The tabs have a strong mint flavour which I love and means they give you a wonderful fresh feeling. With consistent use, I found my teeth became whiter and brighter.” – bh member Muser

Invisalign Treatment

bh says: So your teeth are now an enviable shade of pearly white, but next on your to-do list is to fix that slightly crooked tooth that’s always bothered you. Luckily, full-on headgear is not your only option. Invisalign offer customised trays to smoothly transition that tooth into alignment. The best part? They’re invisible! And super easy to fit into your lifestyle.

You say: “I was really hesitant to begin with but I’m so glad I went through with the decision. I have noticed such a difference in my confidence levels as my teeth are almost straight and they were so overcrowded before. I haven’t had many implications so far and I am almost all the way through.”  -bh member Ash Campagna
