In a world of cat claw acrylics and bubble nails, there’s something so chic about a simple block nail colour. It’s pretty, elegant and helps you look more polished.
But what happens if you fall between wanting the fun of nail art and the simplicity of barely-there nails? Three words: Matte. Nail. Polish.
If you’re ready for your matte mani-selfie, here’s our guide on how to wear matte nail polish.
Choose your shade
All colours look great with a matte texture, but there are some that really stand out with the matte trend. Matte black, white or dove grey are the most popular choices and will always get you compliments.
If you can’t part with your signature shade, try applying a matte top coat on top to turn it into the matte polish of your dreams.

Handle chipping
Matte polish tends to chip quicker than your regular polish. Luckily, there are a few steps you can take to maintain your mani for longer. Keeping your nails on the short side will help to prevent chipping from happening in the first place. When applying your polish, stick to two coats maximum and allow each coat to completely dry before applying the next.
Choose the right top coat
To help prolong your new nails, ditch your usual top coat and try a matte version. It will ensure you get the most out of your matte look and set the polish so it lasts. For a fresh take on the French manicure, use a matte top coat over the top and enjoy the smooth, ultra-cool finish.
