The Healing Hand Care Products Worthy Of A Spot By Your Sink

Our hands are super important right now – but while we’re making sure to wash them frequently (and thoroughly – a chorus of Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ is our favourite way to clock it), we also need to keep up some serious care so they stay both germ-free and generously hydrated.

So, in the spirit of keeping our mitts squeaky clean and silky smooth, we’ve rounded up the healing, hydrating or just-plain-helpful hand care products we suggest you add to your sink space stat.

Glasshouse Fragrances We Met In Saigon – Lemongrass Hand Wash

We say: If you’re eager for a full COVID-style round the world trip, we suggest you start with the Saigon-inspired hand wash from Glasshouse. With notes of lemongrass, orange and sandalwood, you’ll be transported (with fresh hands intact) straight into the vibrant, bustling city.

You say: “Amazingly strong and beautiful – more than your usual lovely lemongrass scented thing. I really know I’m washing my hands when using this and it looks so classy in it’s packaging that I love having it in my watercloset downstairs (than everyone uses) so it’s nice for guests to use and enjoy too.” – crystalclearwater…

Aqium Ultra Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser

We say: It’s safe to say we’ve all become certified professionals when it comes to sanitising our hands. And while it’s important to stick to alcohol-based formulas to effectively kill germs, a formula like this one (packed with moisture-replenishing ingredients) will keep hands free of bacteria while also restoring the hydration alcohol tends to drain.

You say: “This is the best hand sanitiser i have tried for my dry sensitive skin. It dries quickly and leaves my hands much softer and more moisturised than any others i have tried which is great for frequent use. It never irritates or dries out my hands and has a mild floral scent.” – Cherrypie

John Plunkett’s Skin Treatments

John Plunkett’s Skin Treatments JP Psor-Asist Cream

Those prone to bouts of psorasis on their hands may be at risk of flare-ups from all the constant (but necessary) hand-washing and sanitising.  To keep itchy, scaley skin at bay, consider keeping this by the sink to soothe and protect post-scrub-a-dub.

Sukin Naturals Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser Spray

We say: In arguably the greatest method of dispensing hand sanitiser, Sukin’s handbag-sized spray bottle makes for the easiest on-the-go hand spritz. Plus, the inclusion of aloe vera and green tea will keep dry palms silky smooth.

You say: “I like the small size and i can fit it in my pocket. It also smells very pleasant, not chemically like some other santisers on the market.” – Bianca D

Evodia Rainforest Hand Cream

We say: A nourishing hand cream has transitioned from a luxury to a necessity, and this replenishing blend is one of our absolute favourites. Made with natural Aussie botanicals like antioxidant-rich Kakadu plum and softening macadamia oil, it’s a treat (to be enjoyed multiple times per day, of course) for your palms and your nose.

You say: “I love this hand cream. It works so magnificently to nourish my very dry hands. I work in a hospital and am continually washing my hands, which doesn’t leave my skin I’m very good quality.” – Jessie Newton

Buckley & Phillips Indulgence Hand & Body Wash

We say: With all the times we’re washing our hands per day, we might as well wash with a lush formula, right? Try this zesty blend – it gets the job done, and it smells like lemongrass, lime and rose geranium while it works.

CeraVe Reparative Hand Cream

We say: If you’re after something fragrance-free or designed for particularly sensitive skin, give this non-greasy guy a go. It harnesses the powers of hyaluronic acid, niacinimade and ceramides to hydrate and calm hands while also replenishing moisture. The result? Silky soft hands sans irritation.

You say: “After using the Cerave handcream, I have noticed a dramatic improvement in the texture of my hands. I try to use this after everytime a wash my hands.” – daniii

Revitanail Ultra Hydrating Serum

We say: Now is no time to forget your nails – they’re thirsty, too. Layer this hydrating nail and cuticle serum over your hand cream to help repair dry, brittle nails. It’ll load them up with intense hydration (thanks jojoba), while also delivering a subtle coconut scent.

You say: “The serum absorbs quickly and the slight massage is a great stimulation of blood which will naturally improve nails. It is a great habit to get into and this serum was enough to get a pattern within my daily routine” – simone

  1. Interestingly my hands are in best condition this year. And I am using nothing. To be fair…I am not using soaps or those sanitizing things either. Just healthy skin. And water to wash.

  2. I use Aqium Hand sanitiser but not the ultra hydrating one. I need to look into Revitanail. I keep getting little nicks in the sides of my nails which means I have to cut it back.

  3. There are so many hand creams available now. I love L'Occitane for the results, but having any product beside the sink just to hydrate hands after washing, and so much more these days, is almost as necessary as having soap.

  4. I use hand cream a few times a week and rub any leftover face moisturiser into my hands. I lose count of the amount of times that I use hand sanitiser. I quite like the look of the glasshouse bottle – never tried it before though.

  5. I haven't tried any of these products but I do carry a tube of Lifebuoy sanitiser in my handbag. I change hand creams regularly and rarely purchase the same one twice. I am currently using a New Zealand brand "By Nature" Lavender Oil and Shea Butter Hand Cream which is delightful.

  7. I tried a sample bottle of the Sukin Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser Spray but I had difficulty with the scent. I don’t use hand sanitisers so it’s possible that they all have a similar scent.
