Beauty products you didn’t know existed

We live, breathe and talk beauty all day long, but even we sometimes get a surprise when new beauty products we’ve never even heard of emerge from the woodworks. Here are just some of the unexpected ones we’ve come across lately, that we’re predicting will be almost as life-changing as these Holy Grail beauty tools.

So go on, have a flick through the gallery and discover the beauty products you didn’t know existed!

Lilac blush

We talk a lot about the different shades of blush and how to choose the right one for you, but it wasn’t until make-up artist Natalie Livingston, (who did Chrissy Teigen’s bridal make-up) said, “Use a blush that’s almost lilac-y and icy-looking for a soft sheen” that we even knew lilac blush existed! She explained, “When you’re using all warm tones, it can look a little flat. [But lilac-based blush] gives the whole look a fresh brightness and it’s a way to step outside your normal routine while still looking like you.” Try: M.A.C Powder Blush in Full of Joy and Bobbi Brown Blush Lilac Rose.

LED eyelashes

Get ready to ditch your mascara because the future is here! LED eyelash strips are now an actual thing that exist and they promise to make your eyes 200 per cent brighter! They’re strips of lashes covered in tiny lights that sparkle when applied to your lash line. Designer Tien Pham’s colour-changing lash strips, called F.Lashes, even have different light modes, such as ‘dance’  and ‘sparkle’ and come in a variety of colours. The F.Lashes are currently awaiting a Kickstarter campaign, set to begin in July, so that they can go into production. All our fingers are crossed!

Kabuki perfume

Perfume now comes in brush form, thanks to Byredo! Rather than spritzing, Byredo’s kabuki fragrances ($69, mecca.com.au) allow you to brush the scent straight onto your skin. This allows for precise application, which is a godsend when you’re obsessively spraying on your signature scent like we are! Not to mention the compact size, which will easily fit snugly in your handbag without any fear of leakage. The three fragrances are modelled after Byredo faves Bal D’Afrique, Gypsy Water and Blanche, and will be available at Mecca stores from May 30th.

Perfect eyeliner, every time

If you struggle to achieve professional looking eyeliner, look no further than the Beautyblender Liner Designer ($25, sephora.com.au). The genius triple-sided guide will help you nail a perfect cat eye in record time. Each side is designed for a different look, so you can choose your preferred result and wing it every time.

Eyebrow wigs

Ever wanted to get perfect, on-point brows in a matter of seconds? Well now you can, thanks to eyebrow wigs! Like a sticker for your brows (but with real hair!), these brow wigs can create the illusion of fuller, thicker brows in an instant. Simply layer them onto your natural brows and voila! The arches you’ve always dreamed of.

Banana powder

Funnily enough, this powder smells nothing like banana. The name comes from the yellowish colour, which helps to counteract dark circles, correct redness and cover imperfections. Kimmy K herself uses it to conceal under her eyes and it can also be used as a highlighter. Hurray for multipurpose products!

Try: Australis Banana Powder

Benefit They’re Real Double the Lip

Don’t have time for lipstick and  lip liner? This dual-purpose lip colour lets you do both in one swipe. The teardrop tip defines the lip line and fills your lips with colour for volume and definition. This one step lip colour is a must-have for the time-poor.

Frank Body Shimmer Scrub

If you wish to add some shimmer to your shower time, the Frank Body Shimmer Scrub is a dream come true. It exfoliates, moisturises and leaves skin with just a hint of sparkle ($20, frankbody.com).

The ‘Tweexy’ ($15, amazon.com)

This nail accessory will up your mani game majorly. With the Tweexy steadily worn across two fingers, you can paint your nails literally anywhere! The ring-like gadget gives you a hands-free way to hold your polish bottle, all while conveniently in range for easy dipping. Plus it grips the bottle nice and firmly, so you won’t ever tip it over again!

Elizavecca Neodeo Anti-Humidity Armpit Patch ($8.80, my.althea.kr/)

For many women, sweat patches are the absolute worst when it comes to summer beauty concerns. But if you sweat excessively, this armpit patch could be the answer to your prayers. Simply stick them to the inside of the armpits of your top, and the material (which is made of polyurethane) will absorb any excess moisture. Get ready to rock that grey T-shirt, stress-free!

Mascara that tints your lashes

This product is a total game changer for ladies with blonde or blonde tipped lashes. Basically, while you go about your day wearing your mascara as usual it will also tint your lashes, making them gradually darker. So that on the days you don’t want to wear make-up, your lashes will still look fab.

Try: Rimmel London Volume Colourist Mascara

Invisible lip liner

Gone are the days of trying to perfectly match your favourite lipsticks to lip liners, now you can just use the same one for every shade! While you can’t see an invisible lip liner it will aid in defining the outline of your pucker and doubles as a lip primer so that your lipstick (no matter what colour it is) won’t feather or bleed.

Try: INNOXA Invisible Lip Shaper and Australis Secret Agent Invisible Lip Liner

WONDERSTRIPES

Many of us have the burden of hooded, droopy eyelids and have used certain make-up tricks to try to make them appear less so. WONDERSTRIPES are small beauty tapes that can be used to correct the shape of your eye. You just apply them to the crease of your eyelid to make them appear more youthful.

Clarins Double Fix Mascara

Turn any of your favourite mascaras waterproof by applying this little transparent fixing gel. It offers extra hold and protection for your lashes in all different climates. You can also use it to hold your brows in place!

Every Drop Beauty Spatula ($4.99, www.everybeautybrand.com)

Get more out of all your jars, bottles and tubes by using this beauty spatula to scrape out every last bit of product. The silicone tip collects but doesn’t absorb any product and it works for any container shape or size.

Waterline eyeliners

Have you ever tried to put eyeliner on your waterline only for it to disappear after like two seconds? Well, there are actually eyeliners formulated specifically to stay on the waterline. Try: Models Prefer Magic Multi-Purpose Eye Pencil and Urban Decay 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil ($30, mecca.com.au)

Liquid cuticle guard

Getting nail polish stuck on your cuticles will be a thing of the past once you get your hands on this innovative product. You simply apply it on the skin surrounding your nails, paint them as usual and then peel off the now set barrier to reveal perfectly painted nails with no mess to clean up! Try: Simply Peel™ Liquid Latex Barrier ($12.47–$31.19, www.nailcarehq.com)

Wash on sunscreen

So far this is only available in the UK, but we figure if we pray to the beauty gods enough it will hit our shores soon. It’s exactly what you think it is, products you can use in the shower and give your skin SPF protection. Read more about them here.

Almay Oil-Free Makeup Eraser Sticks

Sure, you could dip a q-tip into make-up remover to clean up your eye make-up mistakes, but why would you when you can save room and time with these ready-to-go sticks? Super handy for travelling too!

Purple-based tan

This isn’t a totally new invention, in fact some of you may have already had a purple-based spray tan and not even known it. But now the purple-based formula is available in self-tan form. It works best for skin that’s already quite olive-toned. Try: Australis Rapid Tan Purple Mousse.

Spray on nail polish

Now you still have to paint on a base coat for this to work, but after that you really can just spray on your nail colour! Any mess simply washes away with warm water while the colour stays put on your nails. Want to know more?
