Topcoat? More uses for topcoat, you say? Yes, beauties, I’m getting frugal with my beauty bits – and I’m determined to find more than one use for them, no matter how niche they may seem.
Today’s product of choice? Topcoat. The fabulous finishing touch for your manicure and the product you thought had only one use…until now.

Topcoat trick #1: stocking hole solver
So you’ve gone and caught your new stockings on something sharp have you? There’s no sure-fire way to fix a hole in the stockings, but it’s much easier to conceal than a giant ladder down your leg. To stop the hole from laddering, simply apply a little clear topcoat around the edge of the snag and allow it to dry – voila! No laddering.
Topcoat trick #2: nail glosser
Decided that your three-day old polish needs a breath of fresh air? A slick of topcoat will not only help it stay put for even longer, but it’ll also assist in making it look brand new again – without having to start all over again. Try: Manicare Hi-Shine Top Coat.
Topcoat trick #3: nail art accessory
Ah, so you thought topcoat was a one-sweep wonder, eh? No sir. Simply try a cool nail art trick, like this one using sticky tape, swapping a your base colour for a matte polish and your glitzy lacquer for a topcoat and see the difference! Better still, why not try one of the new shatter topcoats gettin’ around town? They come in all sorts of colours, like black, white and silver andcreate a ‘shattered’-type effect over your regular polish. So cool. Try: OPI Black Shatter Top Coat.
Topcoat trick #4: chip-resister
There is nothing, repeat nothing worse than chipped nail polish. Especially near the end of your nail (not the cuticle end, the free edge), when the white edge of your nail becomes visible because all of the polish has chipped away. Yikes! Prevent this by reapplying some topcoat every couple of days, taking it right over the free edge (kind of underneath your nail) to really bind the colour and ensure it won’t chip as easily.
Topcoat trick #5: bare-beauty enhancer
Want to rock the bare beauty look, but hate that your fingers look dull and well, a little boyish without a slick of polish on them? Feel fabulous by applying a layer of topcoat over bare nails – it’ll transform them from boring to gleamy beach babe in an instant.
