Meal Replacement Shakes That Work

Do any of you beauties know of any Meal Replacement shakes that actually work? I would like to lose a little weight that I have gained because of a very busy lifestyle and lack of running due to an injury. I would like one that fills me up and a low calorie one. I have tried the Aldi one but I am starved after an hour.

I am really not a fan of shakes, they are usually lumpy and taste gross. I have however recently found Bondi protein powder. Put a scoop of it in a shaker with 250ml of ice cold water and shake. It’s super easy, not lumpy, and all of the flavours taste pretty good. My favourite is the Bondi protein co strawberry flavour slimming protein. It tastes just like strawberry milk.

I struggle all the time. And it’s hard because of a medical condition my body finds it harder to lose weight. I found I was actually putting weight ON with some shakes. The high sugar content in some of them is ridiculous.
Also, a personal trainer will tell you to avoid them as much as possible. As it can be healthier to have a piece of dark chocolate than some of the shakes.

I tried the shake diet… and honestly it doesn’t work. once you stop the shake diet, you end up stacking weight back on.

I lost 30 kilos by slowly reducing the size of my meals. if you go from eating huge meals one day and tiny ones the next, your body freaks out and you just end up hungry. Slow and steady…
I would love to be able to say I also excercised a lot but all I did was walk the dogs a couple of times a week.

You can’t expect instant results but it does work.

I tried a few brands because I eat so much!! I need to eat every 2 hours or Im starving!
But this wasnt practical for work so I figured I’d eat a normal breakky , have a shake around 10, then have a normal lunch then a shake around 3 then dinner!! I could never use them to replace an actual meal or I’d probably faint haha .. The only brand that would actually keep me a little full was isagenix . This brand is expensive tho… So I lasted a fortnight and then just ate regular food. I pack a lot of food to go to work each day. It’s cheaper than the shakes. Probably much better for you too.

At weight watchers they tell you that fruit and veg is free of points, you can eat as much of it as you want. A good serving of fruit salad as a morning tea or afternoon tea in between meals will fill you up until your next main meal and provide you with lots of nourishment. I agree having real food in between meals will be cheaper and better for you, just try and stick away from the sugar or high calorie things which will leave you hungry 20 minutes after eating them.

Not a fan of diet shakes but admit I use them after my first baby. If you go down that path just make sure your serving has less than 10g of carb and more than 20g of protein. Otherwise just stick to a low carb, high protein diet of mostly meats (not deli meats), eggs, salads and green or colourful vegetables and snack on almonds, low GI fruits (apples, berries) or fresh vegetable sticks (carrots, celery, cucumber). Skip breads, potato’s, rice and pasta. Diet shakes can actually slow down your metabolism causing you to quickly regain the kilo’s once you stop drinking them but real food does the opposite, increasing your metabolism and giving you nutrition, fibre and energy.

There are honestly so many different shakes out there that all work differently for different people. Personally, the first one I tried worked really well for me in losing my excess baby weight after my first 2 children.

I used Rapid Loss for a weeks and lost a considerable amount. However it doesn’t mean that it will work for you. These were also roughly 200 calories per serve (from memory) and heavy on the carbs and sugar.

I tried impromy, national pharmacies or chemmart has them. pretty pricey but the things taste good enough

If you’re looking at losing weight, make sure that the protein value is higher than carbs, as this will be what kicks your metabolism to burning fat for energy. Some of the shakes either have the same value or some even higher carbs vs protein, which isn’t much help (more for building mass)

Ok thanks heaps for the information. Someone was saying that the Aldi Slim and Trim shakes are great but they look like a hell of a lot of sugar in each serve ;(

  • I like the Vital Protein one..it’s currently on special at Chemist Warehouse at 45 % off. I usually make a filling smoothie with almond milk, spinach and banana for breakfast. Agree long term you need to look at your entire diet to sustain loss and maintain it. Cutting soft drinks, reducing muffins, cakes, sugars and increasing veg, good sources of protein and water is key.
