Forgive me ladies for I have sinned. I have committed the ultimate breach in beauty – and believe me when I tell you I’m now suffering for my sin. Yes I, beauty editor of many years and fervent preacher of protection, have gone and got myself sunburned.
Of all the things I could’ve done – not removed my make-up before bed, squeezed a spot, split the ends of my hair – this is without a doubt the worst. And it’s not just because I’m pretty sore and itchy and know exactly the damage I’ve done to my skin. Or because I'm now sporting red patches in the shape of a singlet, making me look like a tourist trying to get a tan.
No, it’s the fact that it happened in the five minutes I stepped out into the sun without sunscreen. Now before you gasp in horror and brand me a hypocrite, application of my NIVEA SUN Moisturising Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30+ was on the agenda, but because I was eating lunch indoors I planned to apply it straight after – before heading out for a swim. Only, as luck would have it, I stood in the sun for mere minutes to order my food and hey – I got burnt (looks like they’re right ladies, a few minutes really is all it takes).
So besides wearing my highest necked, longest sleeved dress to work today (to hide my shame), and slathering on excessive amounts of Juice Beauty Soothing Serum (to minimise redness), I’m also on hourly applications of Le Tan Iced Aloe After Sun Aerosol (to try relieve my burning skin). Let's just say it’s not making for the most comfortable, productive day.
