4 Tips For Feeling Fresh The Morning After

Party season is among us. And with it comes the cracking headaches, time-wasting sleep ins, cancelled Sunday plans and self-pity. Otherwise known as a hangover. Though there’s no reason to feel guilty about kicking your heels back and celebrating over a few champagnes, the way you feel the next day can often feel like a punishment.

We mightn’t be able to guarantee that you’ll surface from your night out feeling fresh as a daisy but we can certainly point you in a very helpful direction. From techniques as simple as washing your hair to replacing the lost electrolytes from a night of cocktails, here are our tried and tested tips for feeling (and looking) fresh the morning after.

#1 Help your head

We all know the feeling of waking up after a big night to the gift of a brain-tingling headache. It’s one of the main reasons we draw the blinds, turn off the lights and don’t open our eyes until dinner time. But if you’d rather not write the entire day off, try taking two Nurofen Zavance Tablets ($19.99, Chemist Warehouse) when you wake up. These pain killers are absorbed twice as fast as a standard Nurofen. Regular you will be back before you know it.

#2 Clean yourself up

We’re hoping, no, we’re praying that you remembered to take your makeup off the night before. On the off chance that you didn’t, we bid you to make this a priority (for the sake of your skin and your soul). Though we don’t usually suggest washing your face in the shower, exceptions do apply in special circumstances. Dissolve any makeup, oil or dirt lingering from the night before with a thorough double cleanse. Then lather yourself up in a refreshing body wash and prepare to step out as a new person.

#3 Rehydrate

A bacon and egg roll might provide momentary comfort and happiness but a Hydralyte ($12.99, Chemist Warehouse) or Berocca ($19.99, Chemist Warehouse) and a big glass of water will restore all the electrolytes you’ve lost. Not only does alcohol dehydrate you, it will also lead to a broken sleep, inflammation and a drop in blood sugar. A recipe for feeling like crap.

#4 Fake fresh hair

Can only summon the strength for a few minutes in the shower? Your entire hair wash routine mightn’t be possible. However, that shouldn’t mean you’re bound to that knotty, night-before birds nest for the duration of the day. If your hair is feeling oily, grab a dry shampoo like the Klorane Dry Shampoo with Nettle Tinted ($16.99, Adore Beauty). If your hair is feeling crisp and crunchy from all that hairspray that held your curls intact the night before, show it some TLC with a nourishing dry conditioner like the Pantene Pro-V Mist Behaving Dry Conditioner Mist ($9.59, Cincotta Chemist).
