The benefits of kiwifruit for your health and skin

I don’t know about you, but the only thing stopping me from hating winter completely is the fact that kiwifruit are back in season. The little brown fruits are the silver lining of this freezing cold weather and not only do they brighten my day, but I’ve also recently heard they can brighten your complexion. So naturally, I had to investigate…
Benefits of kiwifruit #1 - It’s a major source of vitamin C
When someone brings up vitamin C, you immediately think of oranges, right? Well, Zespri SunGold Kiwifruits (found in Woolworths and Coles) actually contain three times more vitamin C than oranges. And not only is vitamin C great for boosting your immune system (and helping you to make it through winter without catching the dreaded cold), but it also aids in collagen production (bye wrinkles!) and brightens skin.
Benefits of kiwifruit #2 - It’s a fantastic face mask ingredient
If you’re not a fan of the flavour, you’ll be happy to know you can also reap the benefits of kiwifruit by using it topically. Along with vitamin C, kiwifruit is rich in vitamin E and omega-3s, which help to moisturise, nourish and firm skin. Try using it in your next DIY face mask and see for yourself!
Here’s an easy one for an instant glow:
1 tbsp kiwifruit pulp (make sure it’s ripe so it’s easy to mash)
1 tbsp olive oil
1 egg yolk
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl until combined. Apply an even coat all over the face. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes before washing it off with warm water and a cloth.
Benefits of kiwifruit #3 - It fights acne
Kiwifruits contain natural AHAs and anti-inflammatory properties, both of which are great for clearing skin and preventing breakouts. The peel of kiwifruit can also be used as a natural exfoliating agent. How cool is that?
Benefits of kiwifruit #4 - It brightens eyes
Okay, so this one isn’t exactly ski-related, but what’s a glowing complexion without the sparkling eyes to go with it? Lutein is an antioxidant that protects the eyes from free radicals, and kiwifruit contains more than spinach. I know which one I’d prefer to eat!
Kiwifruit products that kick ass:

- Elemis Fruit Active Rejuvenating Mask
- Sunescape Hydrating Shower Gel
- Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Hydration Boost Night Mask
Did you know kiwifruit was so good for your skin?

Love kiwifruits too. Not easy to eat while on the run. Did not know the skin is a great exfoliator.

I didn't know it. I just knew they are high in vitamin C, thus the best companion at winter time.

I love golden kiwi - it's much sweeter than regular kiwi. I would love to see more kiwi skincare!

I didn't even know that there were golden kiwis! I haven't seen them in the supermarket, but then I haven't looked for them.

My kids seem to like these golden ones better that the green ones, they are a bit more special they say.

I love golden kiwi fruits (we call them lemonade kiwis in our house, because my husband reckons that's what they taste like!) - I would struggle to use one on my skin though, becaues they are just too yummy to waste - but I guess by eating them I get a lot of the benefits anyway :)

I love eating kiwis but have never thought of them as a skincare ingredient. I have a vine growing in my backyard, so I'm lucky if I want them, I just have to pick them off when they're in season rather than paying money at the shops.

did not know you could use the outside skin as a exfoliate, also that it contains Lutein, love the taste of both green and gold kiwifruit and now i will be able to use the outside part on my upper arms as they always tend to get a bit flakey

I love kiwifruit and knew it was healthy, but don't fancy the DIY face mask mix. I would like using the shower gel and soap though.
