This Sex Position Has Been Proven To Improve Sleep

So as it turns out, the one thing that can awaken the soul, can also help put it to sleep. Especially if your bedtime ritual involves one position in particular.

In a recent study conducted by TheDozyOwl.co.uk, (a site dedicated to advising on how to achieve a better night’s sleep) 1,600 people were monitored over a three month period to measure whether they were having an improved REM sleep following sex. REM (rapid eye movement) refers to the stage within your sleep cycle where we typically have the most vivid dreams.

Over the course of the three month period, participants of the study tried out 25 different sex positions.

And as it turns out, ‘doggy style’ was the sex position that made the biggest impact in regards to sending people into a deep, dream-filled sleep.

Post-doggy, REM cycles made up 33 per cent of participants sleep, which was a 43 per cent increase on a typical night.

A close second was the ‘lotus position’ with a 39 per cent increase, followed by ‘the eagle’ with a 35 per cent increase.

However, a blanket hypothesis as to whether sex before bed positively impacts sleep can’t quite be drawn.

Positions like ‘the corkscrew’ showed a decrease in REM sleep by a whopping 26 per cent, followed by various standing sex positions, which reduced REM sleep by 17 per cent.

So there’s our science lesson for the day. Use it how you please.
