What Are The 5 Sex Languages? Everything You Need To Know

By now we all know which of the five love languages best represents us, our partners, our best friends and even our parents. And if not, we recommend finding out.

When we understand the way someone close to us values and receives love, we’re better equipped to make them feel heard, appreciated and cared about. Which in turn, leads to happier people and flourishing relationships.

Think of it this way: have you ever wondered why that present your dad loved, hardly even prompted your mum to crack a smile?

It might be because her love language is quality time. Meaning? She’d rather the both of you go for a walk than receive a hamper of body wash in the mail (no matter how good it may smell).

Your dad, however? He’s a gifts man, so keep the beard oil coming.

Got it? Ok, now quickly cast your mind away from your parents and onto your partner because the same method of thinking applies when we’re determining what keeps us happy in the bedroom.

Only this time with a new set of intimacy-related languages to choose from.

We warned you to stop thinking about your parents!

What is a sex language?

Outside of the obvious benefits – *ahem orgasming* – determining your sex language will strengthen existing relationships, improve the chances of success in future relationships and allow us to form closer bonds with ourselves and our partners.

“When two people keep giving love in their own sex language [without proper interpretation from their partner], it can lead to frustration and a lack of fulfillment that can continue for years,” said sex-psychologist Dr. Doug Weiss.

Which sex language are you?

Have a read of the five most common below to discover which one you relate with most. You may even be a mix of one or two…

Then, share it with your partner and watch the sparks fly.

#1 Fun

If you love having spontaneous sex in locations outside of the bedroom, then fun sex is your language.

You are in your element when you are getting creative with your lover. Think late nights in the office, day trips to a secret beach… dare we go on?

#2 Desire

This is the sex language of those who like to be chased.

Your sexual experience will be at its peak when you feel like you’ve been pursued. You love it when your partner plans their sexual time with you, and you know they are really wanting you.

#3 Pleasure

This language is for those who love to please their partner.

If you are always curious to know what positions or acts are your partner’s favourite, then this is your sex language. Exploring and being explored will take sex to the next level for you.

#4 Patience

If you like sex to be gentle and slow, both before, during and after, then this is you.

You like for your sexual experience to take an extended period of time. Take advantage of a sleepy Sunday and let it take all morning.

#5 Acceptance and celebration

You want every part of you to be appreciated during every phase of sex (who doesn’t?!).

If your sex language is acceptance/celebration, you will feel far more satisfied during sex if you know you are valued by your partner. Not just your body or sexually, but that every facet of you is accepted.

Did you know about sex laungages? Which one do you relate to most?

  1. Couldn’t agree more. Sex can cause a lot of issues in partnership and if we dont feel that our partner understands us and our feelings especially with sex we can feel so neglected and unseen
