Everything you need to bring in your first date clutch if you think you’ll end up staying the night…

Whether you met on an app or the old-fashioned way (in a club, six tequilas deep), first dates have a propensity for awkwardness unlike any other human encounter. But sometimes, just sometimes, the date isn’t awkward at all- it’s actually fun! The banter’s great, the conversation is flowing and you’re really into this person.

Most good dates involve some spontaneity and can take us down a road we weren’t really expecting. And if you happen to end up horizontal in the bedroom (or car, couch, trampoline…) to consummate that chemistry, you’ll want to be prepared.

Most of us aren’t brave enough to rock up to a first date with a full overnight bag (how presumptuous!) but you can definitely stash some of the must-haves in your purse just in case…

Hydrodol

A bit of liquid courage never goes astray on a first date. It’s a fine line though, and too much can have you morphing into the messy, slurring alter ego you usually save for girls night. In order to not wake up with your head pounding, be prepared and bring some Hydrodol with you. Hydrol is a mix of amino acids, vitamins, minerals and herbs that help relieve hangover symptoms so you can get on with your day.

Condoms

If you only bring one thing from this list with you, let it be this one. Getting caught up in the moment and then realising no one brought protection is a bummer. Even if you’re on the pill it’s not worth the risk of an STI, and the pull-out method is about as effective as a fork with a bowl of soup. If they try to pressure you into going without, they’re not worth your time anyway – at least you found out early.

WaterWipes Facial Wipes

No matter where you are or, whose bed you’re calling home for the night, one thing remains the same: makeup must be removed. Just before you go to sleep, wipe your face down with WaterWipes Facial Wipes and your blemish-free skin will thank you in the morning. Pro tip: Instead of bringing the whole packet with you, put a couple in a zip lock bag and you’re good to go.

Garnier’s Invisi Deodorant – Max Protect

With last nights exertion (wink, wink) you probably worked up a bit of a sweat. If you don’t feel comfortable having a full shower at someone else’s place, give yourself a quick deodorant shower to tide you over until you get home. Choose a roll-on like Garnier’s Invisi Deodorant – Max Protect because they’re smaller and easier to lug around.

The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain

A multi-tasking lip-cheek duo like The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain is a sleepover staple. A light touch of pink to your lips and cheeks will give you that fresh, ‘I woke up like this’ glow that no mere mortal actually wakes up with.

Synergie Skin Concealer

Skip the foundation and stick to concealer. In the essence of limited bag space, a little pot of concealer like the Synergie Skin Concealer can help you touch up any problem areas without having to bother with a full face of makeup.

Breath mints

Breath mints are a permanent handbag staple for a lot of people, but never is it more important than the post-sex morning. There’s nothing worse than waking up with someone special and being scared to breathe in their direction for fear the smell will send them running. Especially if you’re keen to engage in a bit of a morning makeout. Nix that bad breath in the bud by popping a couple of breath mints so you can get down to business.

The Body Shop Bamboo Mini Hair Brush

Brush out your bed hair with a clutch friendly hairbrush like The Body Shop Bamboo Mini Hair Brush. A birds nest ‘do is a telltale sign of some quality time between the sheets, so a run through with a hairbrush will help you look yourself again.

INIKA Organic The Mascara

Mascara is a product that has the power to help even the most tired, hungover soul look like a passable human. The INIKA Organic The Mascara is the perfect purse size, and a couple of coats will open up your eyes and make you look more awake.

L’OCCITANE Pivoine Flora Intense Eau De Toilette Roll-On

A roll-on perfume isn’t a true necessity, but it is nice to have. A lovely scent will help you feel more confident and put-together, while the purse-friendly size of L’OCCITANE Pivoine Flora Intense Eau De Toilette Roll-On means it’s easy to carry with you.

What do you bring in your purse for a date?
