Day on a plate: Steph Claire Smith

Day on a plate: Steph Claire Smith

If you’re on Instagram, it’s likely you’ve come across Steph Claire Smith. The model and co-founder of the KICgirls.com program (otherwise known as Keep It Cleaner) is a social media star, with more than 1.3 million followers on her Instagram alone. But with her infectious smile, toned bod and her positive approach to health and fitness, Steph is far from just another influencer. Her healthy attitude towards food is refreshing in a world full of counting calories and skipping dessert to create a body we’re happy with. “Don’t cut out anything you love! It’s all about balance and moderation,” says Steph. “Nothing needs to be completely cut out, just don’t have it every day.”

Together with her KIC partner Laura Henshaw, Steph is all about promoting a healthy, balanced lifestyle for women. The KIC program features easy workouts that you can do from home and tonnes of healthy recipes that definitely don’t skimp on taste – my favourite is the Radical Rocky Road, which I regularly make for the beautyheaven office (but refuse to share because it’s just too good!).

Naturally, I was super keen to take a peek inside Steph’s day on a plate to get some healthy food inspiration for the new year. Luckily, she obliged…

Breakfast

“I start my day with one glass of water before my workout, with fresh lemon in it if I’ve got some! And my morning caffeine is an English brekkie tea with a dash of full cream milk. Usually around 8am after my workout, I’ll have breakfast. My fave is Buckwheat Porridge with Berries & Peanut Butter – I love it so much I added it to the KIC meal plan! It keeps me incredibly full (both in my tummy and full of energy) and it’s delicious.”

Snacks

“If I have oats in the morning I rarely need a snack pre-lunch – if I do need a morning snack, it would either be a green smoothie, our Keep it Cleaner Kombucha or a piece of fruit. But usually I have one snack around 3pm and another snack after dinner… dessert! At 3pm, I have something to tide me over until dinner. I love having one of our Keep it Cleaner Bliss Balls! I always have a sweet craving in the afternoon and a Bliss Ball will satisfy my taste buds but also fill me back up with some energy.

Lunch

“Usually around 12:30, because it’s been 4 hours since my brekkie, I start to get hungry. If I’m working all day shooting, I’ll keep my meals fairly light but full of good fats and protein for energy. And if I know I’m going out at night I’ll eat very clean and healthy throughout the day so that I can treat myself a little that night. More often than not I’ll have avo, poached eggs, spinach and halloumi on gluten-free toast, or a chicken salad of some sort. And we have plenty of fantastic salad ideas on KIC – a new fave of mine is the Broccoli Caesar Salad. I’m just a creature of habit and you can find so many similar options at every cafe or easily make them at home so they’re my go-to.”

Dinner

“We usually sit down for dinner at 7pm – I don’t like to leave it any later than that because I don’t like going to bed with a full belly. My dinner changes daily because I love cooking and I love making up recipes as I go. My favourite thing to cook would be a spicy roast chicken with sweet potato and peas! But if I ever want some new ideas, I head to our KICgirls.com planner – I’m loving our Sweet Potato Nachos with Vegetarian Chilli at the moment.”

Dessert

“I always have a sweet craving after dinner. I love peppermint tea with some dark chocolate, a piece of KIC Radical Rocky Road, one of our Raw-reos or maybe even a piece of our Top Secret Brownies!”
