What happens to your body after eating a Big Mac?

McDonald’s is obviously not the healthiest of food choices, but if you like to indulge in it every now and then, there’s something you should know about the iconic Big Mac burger…

Besides the fact that it contains a whopping 540 calories, fastfoodmenuprice.com has revealed it also makes us crave more high-calorie foods to maintain that “I’m so happy I’m eating this burger right now” feeling – and that’s just in the first 10 minutes!

After 20 minutes – The high levels of fructose, corn syrup and sodium make your body crave sugar.

After 30 minutes – The huge sodium intake leaves you dehydrated, producing similar symptoms to hunger (which is why you’re tempted to go back for seconds). Plus, your kidneys have to work harder to eliminate the salt, making your heart pump faster than normal.

After 40 minutes – More hunger pangs! The high calorie intake causes an insulin spike, which then results in a blood sugar rollercoaster and amped-up cravings for fast food.

After 60 minutes – Think you can forget about the burger once you’ve finished it? Ah, not quite. A Big Mac can take a full three days to digest, thanks to the amount of trans fats it contains.

And that’s all without a Coke on the side, which has just as many side effects.

So the next time you’re looking to treat yourself, you may want to rethink your choice. Or at least down a kale smoothie straight afterwards – life’s all about balance, right?

Are you surprised by the effects a Big Mac can have on the body? What’s your favourite ‘treat’?

  1. I don’t eat Big Macs, so I don’t need to worry about this, well, for myself at least. For my fellow colleagues that eat this, I do want them to see this. Maybe they would change their minds about eating this in the future.
