5 health benefits of apple cider vinegar

Yes, apples are delicious. And yes, cider is a fantastic thirst quencher on a hot summer’s day. But vinegar? Well, I wouldn’t say it’s top on the tasty list, would you?
That said, the combination of these three words – apple cider vinegar – actually appears to create a miracle liquid of sorts. Why? Well, it has a whole heap of health benefits and is often touted as a cure-all remedy as a result. But what can it do for you? All this, actually…

5 BENEFITS OF DRINKING APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DAILY
#1. Weight loss
Apple cider vinegar is sensational for those trying to shift a few kilos because of its ability to stabilise blood sugar levels for longer periods of time, while also helping to control appetite. Obviously you won’t lose weight if your diet is unhealthy, but when combined with nutritious foods, drinking one or two teaspoons of apple cider in water before each meal can help you trim down.
#2. Detoxification
Apple cider vinegar is high in minerals, vitamins and enzymes, which makes it a great detoxifying tool. Its acids also bind to the toxins within your body and break down mucus, helping to eliminate them from the body more effectively. It also helps cleanse your lymph nodes, which in turn boosts your immune system and its ability to respond to an attack.
#3. Digestion
If you suffer from indigestion or stomach upsets, apple cider vinegar can help lessen the discomfort by clearing acid reflux. To utilise its ability to do so, drink a mix of one or two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with water before each meal.
#4. Clear skin
Not only will apple cider vinegar help clear acne-prone skin when taken orally on a daily basis, it can also be applied topically to help kill bacteria and germs, and also draw out toxins. Got eczema or acne on your chest, back and other body parts? Mix this vinegar with some Epsom salts and add it to a warm bath for an all-over skin cleansing, healing and detoxifying treatment.
#5 Lower blood sugar
High blood sugar can effect anyone, but people with type 2 diabetes, in particular, have seen great success from apple cider vinegar being introduced into their routines. While nothing will beat avoiding carbs and refined sugars altogether, apple cider vinegar has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity during a high-carb meal, reducing the effects of a blood sugar spike. But like all things health, do consult your GP before making any lifestyle changes.
An important sidenote...
Want to introduce apple cider vinegar into your life but don’t understand how? As previously mentioned, it’s best taken when mixed with a glass of warm or cool water (one to three teaspoons will do), but you can also drink it with some hot water and a little honey like a tea; mix it with oil and drizzle it on salad as a dressing; or quickly drink it straight-up from a shot glass if you can stand the zingy taste. (If you’re opting for the latter method, be sure to brush your teeth soon after, as the acid could erode your tooth enamel.) We recommend Bragg Certified Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, which contains the all-important "mother" that holds a majority of apple cider vinegar's nutritional goodness.
Did you know apple cider vinegar has so many health benefits? Do you already drink a few spoonfuls of this miracle liquid every day? Or will you be introducing it into your diet from now on?

I used to have ACV years ago, have a couple of bottles in my pantry. Some good points regarding having on an empty stomach which contradicts having it in the morning. I guess, use with caution when first trying, perhaps just a little at a time. I am going to use this now as I am just recovering from a mild case of the flu and the congestion is still lingering. Hopefully this will ease that issue in time for Saturday BH event.

I commented on this article in 2013, and I will say a similar thing now ... If you have complex health issues, a sensitive digestion etc, start using ACV very cautiously. I took one teaspoon on an empty stomach and I was in much discomfort. I never took ACV again.

I have never tried this in my health regime but I'm willing to give anything a go to clear up my skin x

Not sure what your skin situation is but I would give anything to have clear skin too. I used to drink ACV every day for a couple of years and even used it as a toner but I don't believe it made much of a difference. I have struggled with my skin for 15 years. 4 months ago I started to use a retinoid (Differin) and started to cut out dairy as much as I can (not 100%) and my skin has completely turned around. I'm not saying that my skin is now perfect but nothing I used all these years helped like this (and I tried EVERYTHING under the sun). It is well worth a try I believe, plus it is also anti-aging so two birds... If you do decide to try it make sure you do your research about how to properly use it and what to expect.

I love it. One of the best things I’ve introduced into my “healthy regime”.

Drinking it in water makes me feel ill. I can only stomach it as a salad dressing.

It's a good rinse for hair to get rid of build up ;) I use it before conditioner - wash it off after couple of minutes and then condition with something that smells nice so I don't stink ;D

I have to wonder... I've been hearing that having lemon water in the morning can actually cause stomach issues due to acidity - wouldn't it be the same with ACV?
