Shaving facts and fiction

Shaving facts and fiction

When it comes to old wives’ tales, we’ve heard them all! From “swallowing a watermelon seed will make a watermelon grow in your belly” to “eating carrots will give you X-ray vision,” there are plenty that just don’t make sense. But the most common beauty myths always seem to be about shaving. We thought we’d separate fact from fiction, so that you know the real deal when it comes to hair removal.

FICTION: Hair grows back thicker after shaving

I think everyone has fallen for this at some point, but the truth is, your hair grows back at the same thickness it was before your shave. After an area has been shaved, the hair shafts start to emerge from the follicle, so your hair looks and feels coarse and bristly. If you allow the hair to grow out, it will take on its original appearance and texture. So if you find shaving to be the easiest and quickest way to remove hair, go for it!

FACT: Dry shaving is not recommended for your skin

No matter how much of a rush you’re in, your skin shouldn’t have to put up with dry shaving. If you’re hanging your head in shame because you do this frequently, invest in the Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment razor. With a solid soapy bar surrounding the razor, it lathers up and glides smoothly on skin, no need for shave gel. All you have to do is add water – surely it doesn’t get easier than that?

FICTION: The earlier you start shaving, the more hair you’ll have

The amount of hair you end up with is determined only by genetics. Don’t feel as though you have to hold off as long as possible before starting your shaving routine. Everyone is different, so it’s fine to start at a different time to your friends (whether that’s sooner or later).

FACT: Your skin can become dry after shaving

In a perfect world, we would all moisturise our bodies every day, but if you can’t manage that, at least make a conscious effort after shaving for smoother, hydrated skin. Or if that’s still too much effort, you can use the Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment razor. The solid bar (the same one that lathers) at the head of the razor also features moisturising ribbons, so you can get silky-smooth results in just one step. Cue lazy beauties everywhere high-fiving.

FICTION: The harder you press the closer the shave

We all want the closest, smoothest shave possible, but applying extra pressure isn’t the key. When shaving, you should just let the blades do the work for you. Wire wrapped blades like those made by Schick will help to provide a close shave and prevent nicks and cuts. Using a light hand is also a lot kinder to your skin.

FACT: Replacing your blades regularly will provide a better experience to your shave

Did you know that you should replace your blades regularly for a quality experience?. Shaving with a dull razor will only result in more applied pressure (to compensate for the bluntness), causing more havoc to your skin. The Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment razor has four blades for a close and gentle shave, plus easily replaceable heads (so convenient!). And when it comes to those tricky areas like your ankles, knees and underarms, the flexible pivoting head handles them with ease.
