The lazy girl’s guide to summer beauty

The lazy girl’s guide to summer beauty

When you wake up on a Saturday morning and see sun streaming through your bedroom window, the last thing you want to do is spend hours getting ready. So to get you out the front door and into the sunshine as quick as possible (and looking smokin’ hot), here are some products and tips that will seriously speed up your routine.

Learn to braid

This talent will serve you well in summer. It’s such a quick and versatile way to style your hair. Braiding your hair post-swim will also stop it from becoming tangled. Plus, once it’s dry you can undo your braids and spritz in some sea salt spray for beautiful beach waves!

bh handy hint: The more braids you create in your hair, the tighter your waves will be once you take them out.

Go for spray sun protection

You should never step outside without wearing sunscreen (especially in summer), but the reason many Aussies skip sun protection is because we’re too lazy to apply and rub it in from top-to-toe. So, do your slack self a favour and keep a spray-on sunscreen like Banana Boat’s new fast and easy EveryDay SPF50+ clear spray by the door. It’ll make it easier to reach every spot on your body and the lightweight formula will rub in at superman speed.

bh handy hint: Keep a travel-sized sunscreen in your handbag, too. That way, if you’re out longer than you expected, you’ll always be able to top up.

Lather, shave and moisturise – in one!

Shaving doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. For smooth, skirt-ready legs, try using the Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment Razor. It lathers and moisturises during shaving in just one easy step, so all you need is water – no shave gel, soap or body wash needed! How simple is that! Infused with coconut milk and almond oil, the skin conditioning solid with moisturising ribbons, moisturises the skin while shaving, leaving skin soft and smooth. Plus, its four-blade pivoting head is flexible, allowing you to follow the natural curves of your legs and body.

bh handy hint: You don’t need to apply a lot of pressure; just use slow and gentle strokes.

A gel mani-pedi

When you’re living in thongs and sandals all day every day, your toes need to be on point at all times. A gel pedi will last without chipping and look shiny no matter how many times you hit the sand. Just make sure you get a mani, too – you can’t have one looking good without the other!

bh handy hint: You can never go wrong with shades of coral in summer. Try a brighter orange on your toes and a pastel on your fingers.

Tint your brows and lashes

Instead of wasting time filling in your brows and applying layer after layer of mascara, consider getting a brow and lash tint. Particularly if your hair is on the fairer side, a tint can make your brows look dramatically fuller and give your lashes a longer, more volumised appearance without the help of product. Most tints last four to six weeks, so you can also imagine how much product (and time) you’ll save during that period!

bh handy hint: If you’re doing a DIY lash tint, focus the product on the tips of your lashes, as that part is usually the lightest colour, and darkening it will make the most difference.

A multi-purpose peach tint

Besides taking so much time to apply, a winged eye and red lip might not be the best make-up to sport in sweltering heat. Instead, go for a glowing peach tint that you can use as an eye colour, blush and lip balm. It will take you no time to get ready and save room on your bathroom shelf!

bh handy hint: Carry this in your bag at all times, so you can go straight from beach to bar.

Invest in a good hat

Yes, a hat is fab for sun protection, but it’s also great for bad hair days. After all, what’s the point of spending 40 minutes trying to tame and style your mane when it will only end up ruined from sweat and water? A hat will cover all and takes two seconds to put on.

bh handy hint: If wearing a hat makes you look bald, push some hair to the front of your forehead. Use bobby pins to secure.
