How-to: find a vision solution that's right for you

Deciding between two things is always fraught with difficulty – Ange, or Jen? Ice-cream, or chocolate? The list goes on… and when it comes to choosing whether you’re going to wear contact lenses or glasses, the decision isn’t any easier. We take the guessing game out of the equation by weighing up the pros and cons of your vision options…
Glasses
Pros:
-Glasses can be fiercely fashionable
-Surveys have shown that most people believe people who wear glasses are more intelligent (no wonder Elle Woods adopted a pair in ‘Legally Blonde’!)
-A good pair can last you forever
-They’re super quick and easy to put on
-They’re ideal for correcting astigmatism
Cons:
-Awareness of the frames
-The distance between your eyes and the lens sometimes creates distortion
-They can fog up when the temperate changes
-They can clash with your outfit
-They create a barrier between your face and the world
Contact Lenses
Pros:
-They’re undetectable, so no one knows you’re wearing them
-They don’t detract from your natural appearance
-They give a more natural feeling of vision as they’re worn right on the eye
-You can’t feel that you’re wearing them
-They’re ideal for people who play a lot of sport
Cons:
-They can be time-consuming and messy to put in and clean
-They can break, pop out or tear if you don’t maintain a proper eye care routine
-If you get dust inside or don’t clean regularly, your eye health can be affected, resulting in infection
-You can’t open your eyes fully underwater
-They can be a nightmare to try and find if you lose them

I've used both in the past, and there are pros and cons to both.

I love the natural feel of my contacts (and the natural look too).

I do have a pair of 'back up' glasses in a drawer somewhere but I thankfully never get to wear them. I swim a lot and it's easier to swim with contacts (especially snorkelling!).

I used to use 3 month contacts, they were a nightmare to keep clean. Now I wear glasses for work/home and single used contacts for going out.

Glasses are cuter and easier to take care of withou the risk of eey infections and caring for contacts

I hate wearing my glasses. I wish they were only for reading, because I don't think I'd mind as much.

I have just started wearing contacts and they offer me so much more freedom. I make regular long drives over 4hrs and wearing frames for this long gives me a headache just from the weight of something on my face, it is not the frames at fault I'm just sensitive. I can be active, bend over, have my hands full and not worry about them falling off. Glasses get rained on and are harder to see out of, sometimes they even fog up, not contacts. Can have all of the hot designer sunnies I want and not have to worry about script lenses put it or changing them when my vision changes :) I dont't have to carry both sunglasses and specs for day to night because I can see any time with contacts.

I wear glasses and have never really considered contacts at all. I don't mind the look of wearing glasses as long as I have a pair that suit my face shape. I don't really mind if the colours don't match with the outfits I'm wearing either.

I wear glasses for reading. I think that I would find contacts a bit time consuming and there is a reasonable risk of infection being introduced into your eyes

Not everyone is suitable for contact lense wear. I wore glasses - designer frames - for many years but no longer need them except for close work and reading since having very successful cataract surgery. I actually still miss wearing them daily as I felt they added to my image. Oh well, we can't have everything, can we?
