How-to: clean contact lenses
There’s nothing more annoying then pulling your contact lenses out of their case to find they’re covered in smudges. Thankfully though, there is a solution to get them clean and avoid those pesky smudge marks. Here’s how…
Step one: prepare
Contact lens care starts with maintaining proper hygiene, so to get started you should always prep your hands by washing them thoroughly in an antibacterial hand-wash.
Step two: easy does it
Carefully remove one contact lens from the contact case and place in the palm of your non-dominant hand (in other words, not the hand you use to write with).
Step three: tip on the solution
Use your other hand to carefully tip one tablespoon of saline solution over the contact lens so that it covers the lens.
Step four: the tricky part
Taking extreme care, use the same hand (your writing hand) to gently rub the lens back and forth in the solution before carefully flipping over and repeating on the other side. Avoid moving the lens in a circular motion as this movement can cause the delicate material of the contact lens to tear.
Step five: repeat
Now repeat steps 2 – 5 with your remaining contact lens. Now you have clean, clear smudge-free lenses! Just make sure you always use contact lens care saline solution when cleaning lenses, which can be purchased from the chemist and handle your lenses with extreme care to prevent tearing.
