Home remedies for brighter eyes

They say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. We say: forget the beholder, beauty lies in your eyes!
Bright, white eyes are the foremost indicator of good health. If you don’t take care of them, they blatantly spell out the truth.
Not sleeping enough? Dark circles will scream out at you. Overstressing in front of TV and computer screens? You’re befriending puffiness, my friend. Not drinking enough water? The whiteness of your eyes will let you know as it slowly fades. I told you; eyes never lie!
What can you do to remedy this? Glad you asked, because we have five super effective, super easy and some delicious home treatments to soothe your precious eyes.
Start taking notes…
Remedy #1: Slap on cucumber / potato slices
The water content in cucumbers and potatoes helps reduce puffiness around the eyes. Cut thick slices of fridge-cold cucumbers or potatoes, tilt your head back and place a slice over each eyelid. Leave it on for about 10 minutes, or change slices if necessary. Imagine you’re sitting in a luxurious spa, put on relaxing music, and feel your stresses drift away.
Remedy #2: Brew some herbal tea
Pour a pot of chamomile or marigold tea with two teabags. Once brewed, put the teabags in the fridge. Remember to not squeeze all the water out of the teabags when cooling in the fridge.
After about 20 minutes, place one teabag each on your eyelids and let the compresses eliminate soreness from eyelids. (And don’t forget to drink the tea while you’re waiting!)
Remedy #3: Juice up
Increase the intake of Vitamin C and A. This goes for even when your eyes aren’t tired, because these vitamins will help brighten the whites surrounding your iris. Create your own fresh juice: try carrots, orange and lemon. Delish!
Remedy #4: Exercise your eyes
We’re all guilty of staring at a computer screen for long periods. Oh look, you’re doing it now. Boo-ya!
You might not be able to avoid screens for too long, but hey, you sure can blink often to stop eyes from drying. Walk away from your computer or laptop screen after every 45-60 minutes. Also try to do some eye exercises before going to bed, such as staring at the tip of a pen while moving it horizontally and vertically across your eyes.
Remedy #5: Cold milk soaks
Toss some cotton balls in a bowl filled with chilled milk. Squeeze the liquid out gently, and place it on your eyelids for about 15-20 minutes. Feel free to dip again or change cotton pads. This is great for soothing dark circles and replenishing the under-eye area.
Do you have a home-remedy for overtired eyes? Which of these are going to try?

Oops! Caught out. Yes, I've been staring at the computer screen for hours; my eyes are itchy, sore and I have a headache. Thanks for the tips, especially regarding dark circles as I don't remember a time when I didn't have them. Okay, this is the last thing I do on the computer tonight. :)

I find rubbing my hand together and cupping them over my eyes is soothing and energising. The ideas in the article are great and I intend to try them. I would like to find a gentle mascara that is easy to remove as my eyes react and look red and irritated by the end of the day. Thanks for more useful hints.

My eye specialist says that alot of people put extra strain on thier eyes by looking up to thier computer screens they should be lower so that you are looking down - it takes a heap of pressure of your eyes, neck and shoulders - I am really greatfull to her for this information it really has made a huge differece to me

that milk is interesting, you can also bulk make cucumber ice pads, soak cotton paids in cucumber juice and freeze, take them out in the morning let them defrost a silghtly and then put them on your eyes, refreshing and they mould to your eyes instead of just sitting on top of them like the cucumber slices do.
