Eye protection tips for travellers

Contact lens wearers have one extra thing to contend with when boarding a long-haul flight – dry, itchy eyes. Avoid the pain and irritation of flying with contact lenses by following these simple tips.
The low humidity when flying can be a major issue for contact lens wearers. Flying in contact lenses may prove irritable as your eyes become dry during the flight. So if you’re planning on travelling in contact lenses, put a few drops of rewetting eye drops in your eyes right before the flight and keep them on hand throughout the trip to treat the dryness. Keep some glasses on hand if your contacts become unbearable and if it’s not a really long flight avoid dozing off as sleep can dry the eyes even more.
Once you arrive at your sunny holiday destination ensure you protect your peepers.
Neglecting to protect our eyes can have serious consequences, including damaged vision and blindness, so eye care and adequate eye protection is not only necessary, it is crucial to maintaining our vision. In summer, protect your eyes by wearing hats outdoors and opting for UV protective sunglasses over regular fashion sunglasses, which won’t actually protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Tinted windows can cost a little extra when purchasing a car, but they are a worthwhile investment when it comes to protecting your vision from UV damage.

I don;t go overboard on the sunnies, as I want the Vitamin D to enter my eyes too.

I have contact lenses and like the daily disposables for keeping my eyes fresh - plus it helps save time too because I don't need to do any cleaning.

Get yourself a really good pair of sunnies, polarised if you require a lot of glare reduction. I've bought 3 new pairs in as many months!

I always make sure I buy good quality sunglasses. Many fashion sunglasses are useless in protecting your eyes from the sun.

Keeping up hydration and keeping saline eye drops on hand are musts when flying, I don't wear contacts but my eyes can't handle the low humidity of the plane.
