Tips to help you: ace that first date
As someone who’s been on more than her fair share of first dates, I can tell you that they’re not exactly the most relaxing of affairs. In fact, the stress often starts way before your date even begins. There’s the stress of what to wear, how to do your hair, and – nightmare of all nightmares – what to do if you have a sudden skin freak out.
Then of course there’s the actual date itself. Whether it’s a blind date or a date with someone you know, chances are you’ll be feeling all sorts of nervous excitement about making a good impression – and with that comes sweat.
You see, when you’re emotionally charged your body produces a particular type of sweat; a sweat known as ‘emotional’ or ‘stress’ sweat. And since it’s not the same as the sweat you produce when the temperature rises, it can occur at any time. Especially when you’ve got those first date jitters. Yes, even if you’re sitting in an air-conditioned restaurant.
Now, the downside to this stress sweat is that it’s also the kind that comes with an unsavoury smell – a smell that regular deodorants don’t necessarily protect against. Which is why, if you’re going on a date, you’ll want to make NIVEA Stress Protect anti-perspirant deodorant your new best friend. It contains an antibacterial zinc complex and Stress Protect actives, specifically formulated to target and control emotional sweat for up to 48 hours, so it will keep your underarms feeling fresh and dry and smelling great during every stage of your date.
To further help you to feel as confident as possible, you’d also do well to follow these wise words wisdom from Sexologist and Relationship Expert, Dr Nikki Goldstein:
DATING TIP #1: Wear something that makes you feel confident, not something that you are going to be tugging at all night or having to constantly fix.
DATING TIP #2: Do a little research on your date to find some common ground for discussion. Also remember that an awkward moment on a first date is not the end of the world, so try not to get too worked up if it occurs.
DATING TIP #3: Try to stick to a two-drink minimum. Two alcoholic beverages can help relax your nerves, but anything more and you might find yourself saying and doing things you could later regret.
DATING TIP #4: If you find the date getting a tad awkward or you feel yourself getting worked up, excuse yourself and take a power break in the bathroom to regain your thoughts and calm yourself down. It’s also good to have a friend to call as a ‘life line’ in case you need one.
DATING TIP #5: If you find yourself really nervous don’t be afraid to let him know. Sometimes it’s sweet for your date to know that you are nervous, as he might be able to help calm your nerves down.
