Reviewed: The Invisalign treatment
Like most brides-to-be, bh’s Nat has a checklist of things to do before her big day. And at the very top of her long list, is her smile. After all, she’s going to be grinning from ear to ear in front of a photographer all day!
Having never had braces as a kid, but always wanting straight teeth, her pending nuptials were the last push Nat needed to get her smile sorted, leading her to start her Invisalign treatment.
These were Nat’s teeth before she was fit with her aligners:
Nat is now more than halfway through her Invisalign treatment and in the video above she reviews the process from how it works, to the time commitment involved, and how the aligners affect her day-to-day. You can also see how much her teeth have moved since the beginning!
Invisalign® treatment is a series of clear plastic removable orthodontic aligners that gently move patients’ teeth. An orthodontist or Invisalign trained dentist will be able to advise whether Invisalign treatment is right for you. You should always read and follow their directions for use. In rare cases, allergies may occur.
Are you happy with your smile? What do you think of Nat’s progress?

I am more convinced to look more seriously into this, My siblings (who both have naturally perfectly straight teeth, used to tease me for my crooked buckteeth. Even now in my late 30's I still am ashamed of (what I now realise aren't actually that bad) teeth. But it still kills my confidence, makes me hide my smile and wish terribly to do something about it.

I wish I could afford it, but with missing teeth it most likely is not going to help me much.

Only experience I've had was with braces with my daughter. Her eye teeth were up above her other teeth but I was surprised at how quickly the braces bought her teeth down. We were told that the braces had to be worn for 12 months so the teeth got used to their new position. We have been very happy with the result.
One question I have is most of our young generation have all had to have their wisdom teeth removed. Have others had this experience also.

I wonder if they'd work for teeth that are more severely crooked. I have had conventional braces when I was 21, never was told about wearing a retainer and as the years went on, the teeth became crooked again. Can't afford any treatments these days. Nat's teeth are looking good. Thanks for sharing your Invisalign journey.

I'm not convinced by this. Brace's can be painful at first but they straightened your teeth.

Great info! I was wondering if you needed to wear the retainer forever! IN saying that it has put me off LOL.

This is really interesting. My eldest had braces and it was painful and you end up having braces cemented to the back of your teeth forever so they don’t move back. His have moved anyway. I imagine if you’ve got Invisalign, you could just pop your retainer back in if the teeth start to move again. I imagine its not for all crooked teeth though - just some. Expensive but then so are braces.

I use to have vampire teeth, then dentist figured out that if he gets rid og one of my permanent teeth, they will have more space in my jawline and come down. They did, but my front teeth are now not centered, I have asymmetric smile hehe

I wore braces for 4 years, so I would assume I would not have been a suitable candidate

Fantastic. If I wanted to straighten my teeth, I would go with invisalign. Had braces for 2 years as a teen, that worked too.

I am wearing my invisalign right now, tray 19 of 27, the end is in sight. If you are any way self conscious about your teeth... do it... now.

I am glad these treatments do exist as some people might not feel comfortable with plain braces. An interesting read.

I recently finished an invisalign treatment. I had braces as a teen but never wore my retainer so all the effort was wasted. As an adult, I have always wanted to re-straighten my teeth but didn't want to have metal in my mouth. I found it very easy to adjust to wearing the plates all the time and loved the flexibility of taking it out if I needed to. However, it is not for everyone as it requires a lot of discipline and it is super expensive. I really love the result, even though it is still not 100% perfectly straight - more like 98% straight. I am still happy nonetheless. My orthodontist actually gave me a choice to do a new retainer set at the end if I wanted to fully straighten them but to the naked eye you can't even notice that it isn't fully straight. Once the plates were complete, I had a metal wire installed behind 3 of my teeth, top and bottom to keep them in place. Additionally, I have to wear a retainer every night which is not that bad. I would definitely recommend Invisalign if you are a disciplined person!

I’m over halfway through my treatment of Invisalign and was told I’d eventually need a retainer at night too. Are these the same as the trays? How often does it need to be replaced or is it the same one? Thanks.
