Spotlight on… Cellulite
What is cellulite?
Cellulite is a way of describing the dimpled effect of the fat deposits that sit just below the surface of your skin.
Why does it form?
There are several reasons cellulite may form. Some are unavoidable, such as hormonal factors and genetics, whereas some can be avoided, such as tight clothing, lifestyle factors and diet. Those more susceptible to cellulite include people who eat more fats, carbohydrates and salts, smokers, those who don’t exercise and those who wear tight-fitting underwear across the buttocks (which can restrict the blood supply).
How does it form?
Underneath our skin lies a layer of connective tissue that adheres to the muscle beneath it. The tissue is arranged in a crosshatched manner in men, and a vertical manner in women. The reason women always seem to have more cellulite than men is because this vertical tissue only adheres to the skin at certain points, and fat pockets are more likely to form where the tissue isn’t adhered to the skin, producing a ‘cottage-cheese’ effect.
Where does it form?
Generally cellulite is mostly found on the thighs, pelvic region and abdomen.
How do you treat it?
There are a few methods that have been found useful in minimising cellulite. Body brushing with a dry brush is a great way to get those fat cells moving around the body and stop them collecting together in specific areas that cause lumpy cellulite. We love: Manicare Cellulite Bristle Brush.
Regular exercise is also a brilliant way to prevent and treat cellulite. It is harder to budge once it’s there, but keeping up a regular fitness routine can help to ensure fat doesn’t deposit into the pockets left around your thighs and abdomen – and can also help to move it around the body if its already an issue.

“I hate my legs, especially my thighs, as they are very bumpy and wobbly due ”¨to a lack of exercise and cellulite. I used this anti-cellulite cream every ”¨morning for about a month and noticed a difference after a week. After two to three weeks my boyfriend even commented on how smooth and toned they looked. I was amazed with the result!”
The Contour Créme contains caffeine to tone, sodium hyaluronate to hydrate, vitamin K to reduce spider veins, retinol for anti-ageing, and aloe vera to soothe the skin – all the while harnessing the power of a concentrated blend of antioxidants and moisturisers to leave legs smoother and more defined after only four weeks of use!.
