How to get more from your body moisturiser
Moisturiser is one of those must-have products that we use all the time, but often we aren’t using it to its full potential. Today, with help from The Body Shop British Rose Collection, I share with you my top six tips for how to get more out of your body moisturiser.
Tip #1: Exfoliate first
Before applying a moisturiser, exfoliate your skin with a scrub like The Body Shop British Rose Exfoliating Gel Body Scrub. It will remove the top layer of dead skin cells, allowing your moisturiser to penetrate deeper into the skin.
Tip #2: Choose for your skin type
Not all moisturisers do the same thing, so it is important to pick one that is best suited to your skin concerns. If you suffer from dry skin, opt for a thicker body butter like the British Rose Instant Glow Body Butter. The moisture-rich formula hydrates the skin while giving a velvet-smooth finish. For dull-looking skin, give it a boost with the Instant Glow Body Essence. The lightweight cream gives an instant, all-over luminous glow.
Tip #3: Look for beneficial ingredients
Obviously you want a moisturiser that’s going to hydrate, but try picking one that will offer other benefits as well. For example, the British Rose Collection is made with pure rose essence that comes from 100 per cent organic, hand-picked roses. The special formulation not only offers the skin fresh, dewy moisture and a luminous glow, but it has a smoothing effect on the skin’s texture.
Tip #4: Mix it up
If you’re after a bit of extra colour, add a small amount of your favourite fake tan to your moisturiser for a DIY gradual tanner. Then just apply an even layer all over your body for a subtle, bronzed glow.
Tip #5 Focus on fragrance
If you choose your moisturiser wisely, it can also double as your fragrance. It’s a good idea to choose one with a subtle scent that isn’t too overpowering, as it will be used on most of your body. The soft rose scent of the British Rose Collection is light enough for all-over, everyday use. If you’re after a stronger floral fragrance, try layering the scent by lightly spritzing the British Rose Eau de Toilette on your pulse points. You’ll be smelling fresh and fabulous all day.
Tip #6: Keep the tub
This might sound like a weird one, but moisturiser and body butter tubs are great for storing all kinds of little beauty tools and accessories. I’ve been using tubs from the British Rose range to store cotton tips and I love their gorgeous, feminine rose design. They look so cute on my bathroom counter!

Sometimes i like to scrub my skin all over with an exfoliating mitt in the shower and then slather the body cream on. I always feel like I've had a great clean when I do this! : D

Great tips, yet wasn't aware of the need to exfoliate the skin first (other than the facial areas). Like using moisturising gel on my hands.

I adore body moisturizers that smell good. In fact it is often how I make my decision and what one to buy :)

I keep my tea candles in my ex-Body Butter tubs. When my Nivea body lotions finish, I unscrew the lid and try to use the long tube inside to scrape any remnants of lotion from the bottle's walls. I'm considering purchasing a long spatula for this purpose. You'd be amazed at the amount of lotion that clings to the inner walls of these bottles; especially if it is a thick body lotion.

I like the idea of keeping my EA Ceramide container for holding some makeup rounds. What a clever idea!

I find exfoliating is not good for my skin but all the other suggestions are great. Particularly liked Tip 4 and will definitely give this one a go. Thanks for these ideas.

Vaseline Intensive Care is a great one that is moisturising but doesn't prematurely fade fake tan. I use the yellow one. Great fresh smell too!

This was very informative and has inspired me to clean out my bathroom cupboard to see exactly what I have in stock. I really am an impulsive buyer which leads to an overabundance of lotions.

I haven't used a proper body cream in ages. I just buy a huge jar of coconut oil - cheap, effective and last ages.

After reading this article, I'll now start using my new body scrubs. I use body moisturiser daily but I needed a bit of a push to use the scrubs. LOL !!!
