Walk for Water

Walk for Water

You all know that drinking at least eight glasses of water a day is vital for a healthy functioning body and beautiful skin, but how often do you really stop to consider how lucky you are to actually have that water?

If your answer is ‘hardly ever’ or even ‘never’, you’re not alone – most of us take for granted the fact that fresh water is well, (and excuse the pun), on tap whenever we like.

Sadly though, one in seven people around the world do not have access to clean water, and if the current trend continues, in less than 20 years, two-thirds of the world’s population will not have access to enough water.

So the question is, what can you do to help? Well, you can start by joining, or simply supporting Aveda’s Walk for Water, happening around Australia this Sunday 18th April 2010.

Each Aveda Walk for Water route is approximately six kilometres, representing the average distance that women in developing countries have to walk on a daily basis to collect water – a pretty scary thought when you consider that it takes you and I just a few steps.

The initiative is a part of Aveda’s Earth Month and aims to raise awareness and funds for Global Greengrants Fund, which supports grassroots efforts to preserve clean water and protect the environment in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Can’t make the walk? Why not purchase a limited edition Aveda Light the Way Earth Month Candle? Not only will you have a beautifully fragranced room, but with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the Global Greengrants Fund, you’ll also be supporting a worthy cause.

How much water do you drink a day?
