RAFW ’09: Wayne Cooper

We hot-footed it backstage to have a quick chinwag with MAC Make-up Director Liz Kelsh about the make-up, Jerry Hall and that Palmer classic, Addicted to Love. All in a day’s work when you’re talking make-up at Wayne Cooper.

Kelsh said: “The inspiration was totally ‘80s, think Jerry Hall, Addicted to Love, beautiful, strong supermodels. It’s full on eyes, full on lips, without looking stupid.” You may be thinking there’s heaps of colour but all the shades were deliberately chosen for their ability to mismatch, as Kelsh explains, “There are a lot of colours in the collection so we deliberately picked make-up colours that clashed.”

Cooper and Kelsh chose two main make-up looks: a gutsy blue and pink eye and an equally jawdropping blue and orange version. Take your pick ladies. Both finished with an orangey red lip, courtesy of MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger that was heavily, I repeat, heavily glossed the second before the girls went out.

If you’re feeling particularly nostalgic, whip out the Duran Duran and get going with this lot…

MAC Eye Shadow in Electric Eel and Passionate (if you’re going for blue / pink) and Electric Eel and Orange (for the blue / orange look). Stretch the pink / orange right out to your hairline while the blue can be used to build a powerful inner eye. Both can be finished off with the Carbon shade, which should be applied in a thick line all around the eye.

MAC Eye Pencil in Ebony will add to the dramatic lining of black, plus seal it in so it stays in place.

Finish with MAC Lip Pencil in Redd, a slick of MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger and lashings of MAC Clear Lipglass just before you head out the door.
