My new beauty BFF

My new beauty BFF

I’ve just discovered red lipstick. Well, obviously not the shade itself, but rather the confidence to wear it on occasions other than fancy dress parties. The strange thing is, it’s not like I’ve been building up to this sudden burst of colour – you know, graduating from soft pinks, to deeper berry hues and finally onto fiery reds.

Until about a week ago my pout and I were totally satisfied with little more than a slick of Lucas’ Papaw Ointment. So what suddenly changed?

Maybe it was the all-round festiveness of the holiday season, or the fact that I was in London at the time of discovery: it was so cold and grey that I needed something to brighten up my otherwise pallid complexion. Or maybe it was just because I had empty M.A.C containers and knew I could trade them in for a free lipstick (yep, that’s right – hold on to your finished M.A.C plastic containers and once you’ve collected six you can swap them at any M.A.C counter worldwide for a lippie of your choice. Is that brilliant or what?) so decided to try something different.

Having become (just slightly) obsessed with the colour since purchase, I’ve experimented a lot with different red-lip-look combos. Turns out a vibrant pout and colourful eyes will never a good match make (unless you’re going for a trailer trash look), however, team it with a sweep of black liner along your upper lashes (try L’Oreal Paris Lineur Intense Liquid Liner) and sexy old-school Hollywood glamour is yours. A dash of red lipstick will also take your look from day to night in an instant, making it our time-poor beauty junkie’s best friend!

Have you experimented with bright make-up shades? What’s your favourite way to sport a vibrant pout?
