5 fast ways to get happy

When you look outside the window and the view is sans sunshine but choc-full of dreary rainy weather, it’s kind of hard to feel happy and glowing and excited.
Sometimes you can feel as though it’s all too much, with nasty colds looming, endless rain to contend with and the inability to feel sexy in your big knits and woolly tights.
But as the saying goes, it’s the simple pleasures in life that have the greatest impact – and that’s never been truer than in winter, when the smallest change can help the most in the happiness-stakes. To feel better, all you have to do is shift your mindset and try our five fast ways to get happy, below…
FAST WAY TO GET HAPPY #1: Get a blow-dry
It sounds simple, doesn’t it? But a professional blow-dry can make you feel special, like you’re super stylish, and like you’re adding a sexy, feminine touch to that figure-hiding ensemble you’re wearing to keep warm.
FAST WAY TO GET HAPPY #2: Read a book
Sometimes if you’re feeling a little frustrated and bored with your own life, the best way to feel better is to lose yourself in someone else’s world. There are so many great reads out there that captivate you from the get go. Not sure where to begin? Try The Bronze Horseman and 50 shades of Grey to start, then run a hot bath - and call me in the morning.
FAST WAY TO GET HAPPY #3: Treat yourself
The easiest, sure-fire way to pick yourself up on a slightly down day is to treat yourself to something you want. It doesn’t have to be a big-ticket item – just something you really feel like, like a cappuccino from your favourite café, or that last lamington you’ve been eyeing. A small treat is the perfect way to provide the feeling of a small win, to give you some extra comfort and to help a bad day get a little bit better.
FAST WAY TO GET HAPPY #4: Go for a long walk
Arm yourself with your favourite playlist, your runners, and an hour of ‘me time’ that use that time to collect your thoughts and feel better. Tuning out the world and listening to your favourite tracks is a fast way to turn your day right around and walking is also great exercise and the easiest way to up your endorphins. You can also try a new walking route to give you that sense of adventure – plus, you’ll feel good about yourself at the end of it for getting off your bum!
FAST WAY TO GET HAPPY #5: Try a new look
Not usually a bold-lip wearer? Do you try to stay safe by sticking to beige shadows that don’t scream ‘look at me’? My mantra is that if you look the same everyday, then you feel the same everyday; which is why, when we branch out and try a new shade of lipstick or eyeshadow, people notice. Compliments fly at you at lightening speed, and you feel a sense of empowerment for getting the guts to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
Try: Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Cherry Tart and Hello Kitty Mono Eyeshadow in Iles Turquoises.

Yes - a good walk or run is a definite pick me up!! Spending a little extra time to feel pretty in the mornings too. Also, the fake smile is great - it really does turn into a real one before you know it.

Sometimes - as tempting as it is to sleep in that extra half an hour past your alarm, get up and spend a little more time on you. Using that amazing smelling new body wash, straightening your hair a little more thoroughly or perfecting the eyeliner. Taking that extra time for you makes a huge difference. Looking that little bit more special - not for anyone else, for you. Sometimes that confidence boost is what you need to widen your smile.

Treating yourself is always a good one, but getting some fresh air and exercise always clears your head - so a long walk is ideal

To cheer myself up I love to take a long walk (unless the weather is bad) or else curl up under the blanket with some good Chick Lit.

I agree with all of these, and it's usually what I do when I'm feeling a bit down or I need a pick me up.
It's odd how a lipstick can always lift your day, isn't it?
I also love spraying on some perfume, having a hot cup of tea, napping and reading a good book. And visiting BH is always a great pick me up too, either by chatting with other like minded lovelies, looking at people's hauls or browsing new make up products!

Great article! We all need a bit of perking up sometimes. To get happy I tend to think of all the best things I have been blessed with. To take things further I'll research holidays and nice places to stay for our family's next holiday. Sometimes just having a nice strong cup of tea can make me happy too!! Love the tips in this article.
