If you can’t tone it, tan it

We all feel better with a bit of colour in our skin. Why? Because for some strange reason, by simply altering our skin tone, we instantly feel healthier, more carefree and, let’s face it, a whole lot skinnier. (We’re a strange minded bunch, aren’t we?)
So it shouldn’t really come as a surprise to hear that tanning salons are offering faux glow contouring services.
The theory behind it is if you strategically apply your tan and intensify the colour on areas lacking in muscle definition, it creates the illusion of trim, toned skin – no exercise needed.
Apparently, you can also create the same affect at home. To fake toned triceps, simply blend an extra coat of self-tan or bronzing cream along your natural triceps line, from your elbow to shoulder.
A taut tummy can be created by slightly darkening the vertical contours on either side of your belly button, while slim-line legs can be achieved with some extra shading under your calf muscles.
I can’t say these techniques would definitely work (and to be honest, I don’t think I’d ever have the patience to try them!), but if you want to give it a go, you’ll be heading in the right direction with these great glow enhancers:
St Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse
Rimmel London Sunshimmer Sexy Legs with Lycra
California Tan Tinted Self Tanner Airbrush
Fake Bake Original Self Tan Lotion
Le Tan Jet Dry

Do you feel skinnier or healthier with a tan? Have you ever tried body contouring using a tanning/ bronzing product?

I'm already quite dark as is, so I don't bother tanning. Lol it's kinda like contouring your face with a bronzer. I guess you could enhance by using some kind of body shimmer on areas that are naturally highlighted.

I do feel slimmer and healthier when tanned up. In winter i my skin looks so pasty and gloomy, i like to get a spray tan to give that extra glow and healthy look. In summer I tan naturally and quite dark, it definitely hides my stretch marks and lumps and bumps ;)

Tan looks rubbish on me anyway... I'd be better off grabbing an eyepencil or something and drawing on some abs :D that'd look greeeeeeeeat.

No I don't feel slimmer at all, and not necessarily healthier either, but I do love the looks of a golden glow, so I guess compared to sickly lily white the bronze effect must create a healthier look ;)

I have never ever applied fake tan onto my body. A tad of bronzer is all I use on my face.
I don't think it suits me and I prefer pale luminious skin- not too pale or pastey of course :D

I'm very fair so when I do a fake tan I feel better about my body, it's true about tanning and looking slimmer. I am envious of girls with tans, very lucky indeed! I am slim, eat healthy and exercise but that bit of colour to the body makes all that work worth while.

Having always thought a tan "hides" some problem areas I do use fake tan. I was not aware of body contouring with fake tan. Being a bit tanned (fake or real) does make people look healthier. Not sure about skinner.
I can see some horrible consequences where rather than contour all you see are streaks. May be if a professional does it, but just maybe.

I think I look much more toned with a tan but lately I've been preferring pale skin. Even during summer I managed to not get a tan, but it depends. Some people suit tans and some don't. It's all up to opinion I guess

>< I'm too lazy to exercise and I think I look better with untanned skin. What's the solution for that?

I like to apply a fake tanning product over winter, as I hate to look all sickly white and sometimes purple when it is really cold!! I'm not sure if it makes me look any slimmer? I just hate to look sickly white. :)

yes a tan does make you look slimmer, personally i wouldn't try to attempt contouring at home i'd mostlikely end up looking all pathcy and orange. I'm naturally tanned and have spent the most part of the last three years on the beach (seriuosly hard life.... lol) so I don't really bother with real fake tanners, I do use palmers gradual tanner to even out my skin all over as my arms and legs are always browner than the rest of me plus it smells like chocolate. I do find that it hides my strech marks but i still am trying to keep up the excercise and good eating habbits.

If they can contour muscle with a fake tan can they also hide cellulite? I'm thinking no but if they ever did invent such a thing I'd be first in line!

Interesting read. Sounds like a good idea! A tan definitely makes me feel better, but for me its also a mixture of the weather making me feel gloomy during the winter months.

I don't think fake tans can hide cellulite Princess Perfume because contouring is playing with colours and shadows, not texture. (lol very unfortunate)
