How-to: fake tan your face

Being the good students you are, we’re fairly certain that, by now, you’ve learnt how to fake tan your body like a pro.
Well, now it’s time to conquer your face (we wouldn’t want you strutting around with a bronzed body and mismatching face!). We know it sounds scary, but St. Tropez Skin Finishing Ambassador, Sarah Tammer, has some super-simple tips on how to create the perfect, streak-free fake tan on your face…
1) Gently exfoliate your skin to get rid of any dead skin cells.
2) Put some moisturiser on your hairline and brows, especially if you have blonde hair, to keep your hair protected from the fake tan.
3) Find an area that’s well lit to apply your fake tan – you’ll want to see exactly where you’re applying it.
4) Apply the fake tan to your face in small amounts, as if you’re applying moisturiser.
5) Blend the fake tan evenly, making sure to avoid the eye area.
6) Once you’re done, immediately wash your hands.
Pretty easy, right?
And now that you’ve got the technique covered, here are some fab fake tans for your face – so that you can get your face just as summer-ready as your body!
St. Tropez Naturals Radiance Self Tan for Face – the naturally-derived, hydrating self-tan will give your skin colour and luminosity without making you look like an oompa loompa.
Le Tan Instant Face Tan – streaks are a thing of the past with this facial tanner. Plus, lycopene in the formula will protect your skin from ageing. Double win!
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Self-Tanning Lotion for Face – a creamy lotion that takes care of your skin while turning it a beautifully bronze shade.
Follow these five simple fake tanning tips to achieve a beautifully bronzed faux glow…
Finding the perfect fake tan can be hard, so we put our Trial Team to the test…

I have in the past, but not with a specialised face tan product. What happened then (and still happens on my body) is that my freckles were intensified, and that wasn't desirable as I'd rather make them look less noticeable - I prefer to use a bronzer for a bit more colour on my complexion...

Yes i have, scary though as sometimes i have looked so orange especially in photos, i love Palmers Coco Butter Natural Bronze as you could work up the colour gradually.

I do not use fake tanning products, however there are some good tips here for those that do. I was put off using fake tan after a friend turned up in a very distressed ORANGE state. It was four days before she was to be a bridesmaid at a wedding!

Everytime I think of fake tan it always brings back memories of my Dad who is no longer with us. It must have been when fake tans first came out i guess but for some reason he decided that he was going to use some and he came out looking orange which was cause for a lot of laugher ...no from him mind you...he was more ranting and raving...lol

I've only tanned my face when I got it done professionally. I'm hesitant to tan my body because I don't want to look orange, let alone my face! :) But these are great tips, and I may have to put my fear behind me and give it a go.

Nope never tried tanning because I prefer my natural skin colour and also because it seems too messy and too much effort.

I dont use fake tan on my face as I have freckles and fairly dark skin to begin with. However, my dad has been doing it for years, and his looks really good, not the Donald Trump type with orange face and white eyes.He he.

I just use my usual body fake tan (happens to be St Tropez anyway), mix it with a bit of moisturiser to weaken it a little and apply. I don't really go through all the suggested steps, and it seems to work out fine anyway. I love it because I hardly need to wear foundation when my face has a bit of fake tan.

Great tips, unfortunately I still havent found a self-tanner that I can use in my face without breaking out.

Never used fake tan on my face, a bit reluctant as I preferr a bronzer or a shade darker in my foundation.

I have the le tan, but not game to use it... I don't want oompa loompa face.
Maybe I will mix it with moisturiser to stop it being so dark. Gradually lighten.

I used the old dior face self tanner and it was amazing. It made my skin a nice light olive, evened out my complexion and I barely needed any makeup. I've tried a couple of others but they haven't given the desired result, more of a muddy orange tan.

I don't need to fake tan my face, I have an olive complexion and spent too much time in the sun when I was growing up. I am happy with applying just a tinted moisturiser or makeup to even out my skin tone. No fake tan for my face. ###Sandra

yes, ive always done it. we werent allowed to wear makeup to school so being the precious little princess that i was, i used to get my eye lashes tinted and fake tan my face a couple of times a week. Model co always worked really well and did a light sweep over my face/neck/chest. I still use that sometimes in summer when i dont want to wear much makeup. Otherwise the st tropez or ella bache mist cans do the same job, or both of their face tan creams are great.

I prefer bronzer too.. I always wear makeup anyway so wearing fake tan on my face would be pointless
