Laser hair show and tell

“I am a current shaver, as I despise the pain involved with waxing and simply don’t like letting my hair grow long enough to have it waxed. However, I hate, hate, hate shaving every two-three days. I’ve heard of a couple of people trying laser hair removal, but know next to nothing about it. Can you give me any details?” – ShavenHaven87
We sent bh’s Kate off to be zapped at Nad's Laser Clinic, so that we could give you the 411 on laser hair removal and how it all goes down.
Nad’s Laser Clinic – Bikini line
Treatment time: All in all, including consultation, 60 minutes. Actual zapping was between 5-10 minutes.
RRP: $70 per treatment for a bikini line (packages are also available)
I am a laser hair removal virgin, having always opted for my trusty epilator, so I was both intrigued and slightly nervous about this treatment. My appointment began with a briefing by the lovely Maria, a quick questionnaire and off we went.
She started by drawing guidelines on my skin to mark out the area to be de-fuzzed (much like they do before performing surgical procedures on Greys Anatomy). Maria then moved the laser over each tiny area and I watched on as the hair follicles absorbed all of the laser energy, ultimately destroying them - hence re-growth is impaired. I felt a slight zap – slightly like an elastic band snapping against my skin, minus the pain. What I loved most is cooling device that’s equipped to the laser; which blasts out a burst of ice-cold solution automatically after each pinch making it completely comfortable.
The whole process (I had just my bikini area done) is over within 10 minutes and followed by an application of refreshing aloe vera gel. Maria informed me that in 7-21 days I should start noticing the hairs falling out from the roots, with a course of around six treatments needed to eliminate hair permanently. My only bugbear is that I didn’t sign up for this sooner! Brilliant.

I've just started IPL on my underarms and it is surprisingly painless. Much prefer it than waxing and it won't grow back! What's not to love?

Absolutely insightful article. Would definitely do it if it didn't cost so much!

$70 x 6 works out to be $420, that sounds like an awful lot, but I guess the amount of money we spend of razors over the years it would certainly add up. If only I was rich, hehe, one day I might consider something like this, although I know there is nothing like it around this area, but when I hit the jackpot I am sure I could afford to fly to a major city for the treatment, hehe :)

Sounds great but the price is a tad off putting. Guess it'll just be a lifelong relationship with myself and my trusty razor. =)

I have wanted to do this for sooo long but I've been a bit worried that it might hurt, but after reading this and crunching the numbers (it's really not that expensive when you think about it) I think I'm going to have to actually do it!

Sounds interesting. I think I'll put it off because it is a little pricey for a student budget... How long does it last? I know it says permanent, but is it really permanent? Thank you for the stockist number.

I absolutely have to try this.
Sounds so much better then waxing, and i'm pretty sure in the long run it ends up being cheaper then waxing.
Can't wait to have pain free hair removal!

I am suspicious about the aspect of permanency. According to the Government's competition and consumer website, ACCC, there is no such thing as 'permanent' hair removal. There may be a huge reduction of hair but all the scientific tests show there is no such thing as permanent removal. So it may be still a useful procedure but expensive.

It looks like Nads clinics are only in Sydeny - http://www.nadsclinic.com.au/
But if you just google Laser hair removal and then your city, it should come up with some options.
Definitely going to try this laser removal! Thanks for the article.
