Beauty brush up

Brushing our hair is second nature but how about brushing our body? Now before you dismiss it as just another element to add to your already lengthy beauty regime, I have this to say to you…’don’t knock it ‘til you try it.’
Happy to hear about, try, and put through its paces anything that can improve the look, feel, and radiance of my skin, I decided to give body brushing (also known as dry skin brushing) a go.
Why?
Well, why not? Like most women, I get dry skin on my legs (mainly on my shins), and also a little rough skin on the backs of my upper arms. I also like the idea of improving blood circulation and, having been suffering from cramps in my legs of late (I’m putting it down to the pregnancy), I decided action was needed.
What are the benefits of body brushing?
Dry skin body brushing before showering or bathing stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic flow, which helps to eliminate toxins from our body, while the gentle brushing action is a great way to exfoliate the skin and lessen the likelihood of ingrown hairs.
Body brushing only needs to take five minutes and many people find it quite therapeutic. The important thing is to use a firm but not heavy-handed brushing action. Begin at your feet and sweep the brush upwards towards the heart. When it comes to your tummy, brush in circular, clockwise motions.
Once you’ve finished showering or bathing don’t rub your body dry, rather lightly pat off excess water with a soft towel and use your favourite moisturiser generously for optimal skin soothing.
While you’re in the mood for pampering, why not enter to win a Detox for a Day spa treatment at Chuan Spa, Langham Hotel, Melbourne?
The 1.5-hour treatment (worth $195) includes:
• Tri-bathing ritual (sauna, aromatic steam room and snail showers)
• Herbal salt scrub
• One-hour massage of guest’s choice
• The gift of an exfoliating body brush
(please note: this is a member-exclusive competition that requires an entry code - located in this week's newsletter)

Sadly not in Melbourne but that spa treatment sounds wonderful, I'm sure the winner will be wrapped with it!
I like body brushing - it really does feel therapeutic and I always follow it up with a loofah in the bath.

Yes, sorry ladies, this is one for the Melbournians among us. It's nice to spread the love though and not be Sydney-centric. x

I may have to give this body brushing thing a try... I have been using a loofah mit in the shower for as long as I can remember but my skin might like a bit of extra attention. I love the sound of this week's competition. Eagerly awaiting the newsletter to pop into my inbox now!

I like to body brush & moisturise afterwards, it leaves me feeling fresh & invigorated! I don't do it nearly as often as i should though. This comp sounds beautiful, curious, what is a snail shower?

I received a spa pack for Christmas with a body brush in it. I have not used it so far but your article has motivated me to try it.

I don't have a body brush but I have a textured exfoliating loofah-cloth-thing I got from the body shop, it seems to work as well as a body brush.

Can't enter the competition as I am in Perth, but also as BH's Leanne would know being pregnant as well - sometimes you just have to use a body brush as you can no longer reach your toes! At least that's what I'm finding - as a result though, my legs and feet have never looked better. Combine that with an aftershower slathering of Palmers Cocoa Butter and its all good.

Can you bodybrush at home?

I like the concept of brushing but I'm not convinced that I would stick to the routine, knowing me I would invest in a brush, do it for a week and then it would become another permanent object in the shower that I need to clean around.

Good luck for all Melbourne entrants!
Yeah I'm not going to bother buying a body brush, I just know that I would never use it and it would just take up more space :P

I think regardless if body brushing is good for you, it actually FEELS GOOD also, I do believe that circulation is helped somewhat with this bit of pampering. I suppose like anything, time is limited sometimes.

I will have to give the comp a miss coz I don't see myslef in Melbourne any time soon, lol. I have a body brush and was only recently thinking about it. WHY has it gone all black and mouldy, which I can't get rid of, any tips for keeping these body brushes in tip top shape. I guess taking them out of the bathroom would be the best bet, but if I did that then I would never remember to use it, lol??????????
