Romance essentials

Arm yourself with these V-Day essentials.

February 14th, the day of the year where love is publically celebrated and you can be as romantic as you want and indulge in public displays of affection with your loved one without feeling guilty or gooey for doing so.
To help you get the most out of your Valentine’s Day (and because we know boys are just bad at this kind of thing), we’ve pulled together some of the Valentine’s Day romance essentials guaranteed to get you and your boy feeling amorous.
Finding the perfect scent
There’s nothing more appealing to a man than a sweet smell that lingers on his lady, so on this special night of nights, do yourself a favour and ensure you smell amazing. It’s said that cinnamon, vanilla and musk are among the most effective scents when it comes to attracting the opposite sex, so this Valentine’s Day spritz yourself with a perfume that includes these notes.
We love: Jo Malone Vanilla & Anise Cologne, and The Body Shop White Musk Libertine.
Setting the scene
There’s nothing more romantic than cuddling up on the couch and unwinding with your special someone. If you do decide to spend Valentine’s Day at home together, be sure to set the scene with a few romance essentials to make the night different from other nights and guarantee your ticket to Lovetown. Scented candles or fragranced diffusers will fill the room with a sensual aroma and get you both ready for romance. Choose notes of vanilla, rose, musk or orchid for a truly tantalising atmosphere at home and you’re sure to have him purring!
We love: Glasshouse Manhattan Little Black Dress Triple Scented Candle, and Ecoya Reed Diffuser in Vanilla Bean.
Getting sensual
If you’d like to enjoy an activity that’s slightly more passionate than dinner and a DVD, why not treat him to a loved-up oil massage at home? Choose an essential oil that makes him feel soothed, relaxed and – most importantly – sensual! Once you’ve worked your magic, you can then get him to treat you to a massage in return. It’s a sure fire way to get you both in the mood for Valentine’s Day.
We love: Durex Play 2 in 1 Massage Moods Lubricants Range, $9.95, Woolworths, Coles, Pharmacies, and independent supermarkets. – light and non greasy aromatherapy massage gels that can also be used a lubricant.
If you’d prefer to relax and unwind as a pair, why not run a bath and enjoy a long hot soak together? You could even sip on some champagne as you enjoy the pampering feeling of nourishing bath salts or scented bubble bath.
We love: Crabtree & Evelyn India Hicks Island Living Spider Lily Bath Salts.
What is your best tip for setting a romantic scene?

Well these selections are perfect for me - lighting and fragrance (both personal and environment) are essentials, music creates a mood too, but not as vital as the first two. But I must add how important privacy and NO interruptions are - I'm sure there's lots of Mums out there who will agree, and who are regularly challenged on that score :-)

I think that there's nothing more romantic than a beautifully scented candle and a candle lit dinner

Nice dinner with candles and romantic music, then taking a bath together, that would be a nice evening!! But seeing as we have a 4 year old that never wants to go to sleep in her room it makes it very hard to make any plans for evening spent alone... Besides, we don't celebrate Vday :)

Love, love, love candles and so does Hubby - he often has a couple burning when I get home of a night and it is such a lovely thing to come home to.
