Stretch marks – beware

Sometimes on a low day, you start to doubt everything about yourself and the way you look. Your make-up looks blotchy and uneven; your hair just won’t sit right; and those jiggly bits? They feel around twice as big as usual.

On those ‘blah’ kind of days, it really helps to come across a ‘good news’ story that can help to lift your spirits and inject a bit of hope back into your day. Don’t know what I mean? How’s this for some good news:

bh member, Sarahly, recently started a thread in the bh forums gushing about a couple of body products she swears have helped get rid of her stretch marks, ten fold. I know, stretch marks! The infamous body pest that won’t budge! She really got rid of them! So of course I just had to share her findings with you, and even add a couple of stretch mark saviours of my own to the mix. Check it out!

Lush Buffy (vegan) – Sarahly says: “I noticed tonight that my stretch marks have faded considerably in this short period of time, they’re flatter, and whiter. I am amazed at my results with such cheap simple products. I will continue to do this religiously. I really believe my success comes from the Lush Buffy exfoliant. It is my new holy grail product!”

I'm an odd one here! I tend to have the opposite problem to a lot of people. My current biggest body issue is losing too much weight through stress. (Been a stressful week - we all have them sometimes!) When I get stressed I lose weight rapidly - I'm currently dropped to 49 but was 48 a couple of days ago so I'm trying to put some more on to get to atleast 50.

I've never had stretch marks so I don't know any stretch mark creams! Sorry beauties for not being much help here today!

My biggest body issue is scarring, whether it be through previous acne or stretch marks. I haven't really tried to get rid of them yet so might have to try out these products :)

Great blog on options for stretch marks. TriLastin intensive cream is also very good. They do fade over time. I have read in the past where it is best to use a moisturising cream with Cocoa Butter, Wheat germ and Lanolin it it to see the best results for stretch marks.

I used to have a truckload of body issues, but with age came acceptance, so I'm happy so long as my body works the way it should! Having a bad knee bugs me more than having cankles these days. As for stretch marks, they're hereditary, so I don't bother trying to eradicate them.

I haven't used stretch mark cream, but moisturiser is good and that lush buffy sounds great!

A body issue that frustrates me is blackheads. My nose is a magnet for them and it's a full time job trying to stop them from taking over my face!

I don't like the fact that so many cellulite creams contain caffeine - one of the toxins that we're trying to rid our bodies of! The lush Buffy sounds good though and I really like karin Herzog's oxygen body creams for cellulite - they give a blast of oxygen and water and have really helped my dimples!

I have never used a treatment for stretch marks even though I have them, they fade with time.
I used Bio Oil, massaging daily into a small operation scar and the faintest of scars exists. I found this to be unbelievable.

I don't have stretch marks but I'm alergic to mosquitoes so when I get bitten I get a nasty scar. Palmer's Cocoa Butter and the Innoxa Skin Tissue Oil have really improved and evened out my skin. Life savers!

My biggest body issue is my skin. My family has a history of bad skin conditions, and so I haven't been to lucky in that department. I have horrible stretch marks on my legs. But no products have ever helped. Basically they just continue to fade over time. They used to bother me alot when I was a teenager, but as I've grown older, I've decided that there are worse things in life and that I can't change it, so there is no point crying over it. II figure if someone is shallow enough to judge me because of a few stretch marks they aren't the sort of person I want in my life anyways :)

This is such a timely and helpful article. I was excited to hear about Sarahly's story and when she mentioned that Vaseline's Cocoa Butter was one of the products she used with success, I was all ears. Vaseline is one of my fave supermarket brand body lotions so I will definitely be using a lot more of the Cocoa Butter range to see if they will help fade my stretch marks as well. Never tried Lush products before but perhaps I will drop in next time to pick up this "Buffy" exfoliating soap. Such a cute name too.

I believe the standard bio-oil that is fairly inexpensive is a great treatment for stretchmarks. I also won the Elixia Body Sculpting cream and have just started using it, so when it has been tried and tested for a couple of weeks, I will write a review on it. I am loving the idea of the Lush Buffy soap and have read the reviews on it and it may well become my next holy grail product.

I think the main thing with stretch marks is to have the skin hydrated at all times - skin that's not dry stretches easier without leaving any tears or marks. With my first pregnancy I used a little bit of Bio Oil as prevention and never got any stretch marks. Now with this pregnancy I was told I have a couple of really faint ones on the sides/back but only if you look closely enough. I haven't used anything this time so makes sense I'd get them :) But from what I hear Bio Oil does the job wonderfully and is easy to find in stores...

I do't believe you can get rid of stretchmarks, only just lessen the look of them. But if your prone to them and fluctuate in weight, you can just get more.
