I think that you must create a portfolio so that people can see what you do. As you know most of the people use internet and this can be the positive point for you and let you promote your business through social media.

Definitely a portfolio and word of mouth. Maybe also try to find a hairdresser you can work closely with, that may help generate business when they do weddings etc, they can refer you to their clients and vice versa. That’s actually how I found my wedding make-up artist.

I think a portfolio is most important, it shows people what you can do. Plus with today’s Internet, you can use all the social media to promote right?

Do you have a portfolio of your work? On my local resident group on Facebook people advertise their businesses free every Tuesday. They all have their own Facebook pages showing off their work.

Get your clients permission to take before/after shots – if you don’t have that then get family and friends to model for you. Include a range of ages and makeup styles like dramatic, creative, special occasions etc. I’d also include what brands of makeup you use as some people want high end or potential issues with ingredients of certain brands etc.

advertise. It depends on how much you want to do this a side hustle or make it your permanent business. Some cheap and free ways to get started would be to make a facebook page and instagram page specifically for your make up artistry and continue to post new pictures of your work, get friends to share the page and its content, social media can be powerful if used right.

If you were wanting to go further than that, you could start having your company listed on google if you have a physical location etc. Or paid advertising on facebook and google etc – but like I said, that is more a question on if you want to make this a business and put money into advertising it and listing it. Like they say, you gotta spend money to make money!
