Video: The battle: what beauty bits to take abroad?

It may seem like a lot to some, but I suffered a minor panic attack when I was told that all my beloved beauty bits would have to squeeze neatly into this little black case – or face a hefty fee.
Okay, so the case itself isn’t too titchy – I mean, my lipwear (glosses, stains, lacquers and straight out lippies) would fit snuggly in a case like that. But when mum explained that I would have to fit my toiletries, hair products and cosmetics in that one-zip case… well, I wasn’t the least bit amused.
It took me a little while to find a solution, but by George, I think I got it – so I just had to share my findings with you all…

Do you think I’m missing anything?

LOL, it get's worse when you are going away for a long time. I find that i really have to be strict when travelling and just take tha basics. I also find that my collection of samples are always great as they lighten my load along the trip (to fit in other goodies picked up along the way). If all else fails you can always purchase things like shampoo, conditioner and soaps etc (your basic beauty stuff) when you are there (also it encourages you to try new unyet discovered brands, and sometime it doesn't even hurt your hip pocket)
Just always make sure that you have lip balm and a great moisturiser, because concealer (which is small) mixed with moisturiser creates a nice tint. Lip balm with some eyeshadows or blush, mixed can create nice lip glosses etc, you can be creative.

Minis and multi-tasking products are your friend when travelling and GWP sizes are brilliant. I actually bought some Clinique just for the bag and gifts before going to Japan as it had several products that were ideal for the week. I actually bought my mini shampoo and conditioner over there too then threw away the almost empty bottles before heading home. While I don't have one myself I think products like Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick is a great idea as it can be shadow, blush, bronzer and illuminator all in one. Stains are great too as you don't always have time to check and reapply makeup so slap some on the lips and just carry a gloss or balm to put over the top.

Nicely done, I will be facing the same dilemma soon, packing to go overseas. Fortunately I will be staying with friends so I can forget a lot of items and just share theirs. I think a self-imposed limit is a good idea, that way you will have heaps of room for all your goodies you will buy!

OMG, Olivia, what a task ahead of you! A lip and cheek stain would do a two in one job, Mirenesse one has a gloss at one end. Neutrogena SPF30 cream doubles as a primer plus sun protection. Maybe a palette with glosses, eyeshadows, blush all in one?! I have a Sportsgirls cheapie one which I love and carry everywhere.
What about eyeliner, mascaras, and just one perfume?! I carry two Impulses and two or three little perfume vials :) I never carry toiletries as you can buy them anywhere, another reason to shop!
I think you should bargain with your mum for a bigger makeup bag :)
Have blast in Europe and buy more makeup there! Enjoy :)

You've definately covered all bases Liv! Love the Moroccan oil mini. I think a lot of multi-tasking products are a great idea. I really want to try the Benefit Go Go Brows kit. I have a big obsession with my brows as well. If worst comes to worst and you want to scale down or missing something use it as an excuse to buy some European beauty goodies. Enjoy your trip :)

Hi Olivia. I think your missing your toothbrush and dental floss, but hey, you could pick them up from a chemist (or do they say 'drugstore' over there?!) when you arrive. I'd also have to have my lip balm (but that'd go in my pocket/handbag for use on the plane). Totally gotcha with regards to the eyebrown thingy - I feel scruffy if I don't 'do' mine.

I remember going to Brisbane last year and when I got to the check-in I had to pay extra because my bag was too big :( I was only going overnight and honestly I packed so much makeup and beauty products over half of which I didn't even use, I will definitely not make the same mistake when I head to Sydney later this year, less is definitely best when traveling, if you forgot something I find you can normally pick up a bargain when you are on your holiday anyway and get something even better and more affordable than the item you forgot, have a great trip, try to leave heaps of space for all the goodies you will pick up while abroad, remember your own stuff will still be here when you return and often you don't even need half of what you pack, especially when you are buying new stuff that you want to use straight away :)

Wow so many helpful comments! I really can't add anything to it... I always find it hard to fit everything in one bag so I end up taking more makeup and less clothes etc.. :PP What about some mascara, blush/bronzer? And of course tooth brush/floss...I always buy those travel size bottles/containers from Reject Shop when I go somewhere, they're about $2.50-$3 for a nice set so I get a lot of them and then put everything I can in them. Saves me so much space!! And money, as you don't need to buy the special travel size products... They're irreplaceable!! Have fun in Europe, such an awesome place, I'm jealous :))

I empty my full size products into mini jars and bottles when I need to take them out for travels. It saves space and if I lose the smaller size products, no big deal.
Also love buying the mini me travel size products that are now sold in supermarkets and priceline. Definitely handy for travelling.

Have lots of fun Olivia! Do you pack eyeliner and mascara? They'd be my staples. I'd probably also get some mini products from Coles - they have great travel size shampoos, body lotions and even cleanser/toner/moisturizers.

At least if you can't fit it in now, you can just buy it over in Europe... and another suitcase for all the stuff you buy when you come home :P Hope you have the best time ever and stay safe! Europe looks amazing, I'm so jealous. Enjoy x

Great job there, Liv! However, what happened to a lip colour or two?! Oh, and mascara and eyeliner? I guess you can always slip a lipstick, balm and/or gloss (or three) into your pocket and/or handbag! I would also include a facial mist to refresh your face in summer and keep it hydrated (really helpful after such long flights)! It's obvious you are in love with that Chloe scent to be taking the whole bottle! How about getting a little atomiser and pouring some in it? That way you can keep your fave scent on you at all times! I hope my tips help you out, Liv! From one avid traveller to another, I can't wait to hear all about your BET (Big Europe Trip)! Enjoy it for me! : D

What about eyeliner and mascara? I would definitely put those on my 'non-negotiable' list! Oh and lipsticks and lip balms and stuff? Hmm..they'd be on my non-negotiable list too haha. I try to take just one of the essentials and then figure the rest out when I go there. Have a good trip, I'm hoping to go around this time next year so I'm already jealous :)
