Shave It or Save It

We love it when things are done for a good cause, which is why, when we heard word that one of Rugby League’s biggest players, David ‘The Wolfman’ Williams, was taking part in a campaign to potentially shave off his trademark beard, we couldn’t help but be intrigued…

The ‘Shave It Or Save It’ campaign is a NIVEA initiative that asked the public to vote on whether certain guys (like ‘The Wolfman’) should ‘shave’ or ‘save’ their beards for charity. NIVEA for Men donated $1 to the Australian Paralympic Committee for every vote received – and they have successfully reached $10,000! Yippee!

David ‘The Wolfman’ Williams’ beard met its fate on Tuesday after the majority of the voters concluded that he should shave his face fuzz. We caught up with him (and his newly smooth face) to chat about his involvement in the cause…

Why did you choose to support NIVEA’s ‘Shave It Or Save It’ campaign?
It was Bambi's idea actually. For those of you who don’t know, Bambi is the name of my beard! If she was going to face the guillotine, she thought she'd help raise funds for the Australian Paralympic Committee along the way.

So you felt that you were a good fit for this campaign?
With a nickname like ‘Wolfman’ and a very well recognised beard, it was only fitting to get involved with the NIVEA for Men ‘Shave It Or Save It’ campaign – it’s fun, humorous and raises money for a good cause.

In the ‘Shave It Or Save It’ report, it states that a whopping 83 per cent of women prefer to kiss a clean-shaven man, is this part of the reason you decided to lose the beard?
No, not really. Although the other 17 per cent are very hard to find!

Do you think you’ll be more successful with the ladies now that you’re clean-shaven?
By the sounds of it a shaven face is the preferred preference. But I'll have do my own testing to be sure.

Rumour has it you love the NIVEA for Men Sensitive range – what do you love about it?
I haven’t shaved my face in a long time and feared that when it finally happened I would end up with razor rash or something worse! The NIVEA for Men Sensitive range definitely ensured that didn’t happen. And now I can proudly say I no longer suffer from Xyrophobia (a fear of razors). Thanks NIVEA for Men!

Out of a beard or clean shaven I'd pick clean shaven. I've never heard of the guy in the photo but then again I don't follow football. Yes, I think he should shave his moustache - blue doesn't suit him!! ; )

It depends on the guy. Some actually look better with facial hair.

Clean shaven is my favourite look, but depending on the man it does suit some really well.

I think it depends on the man. Some men look great with some facial hair and some don't. I mostly prefer men with some facial hair. I do not know David Williams so I can not comment on whether he looks better or not. Nivea, certainly does now have a really good range of products for men especially The Sensitive range for Men.

That's the Wolfman? Really, the dude in the photo? I can't believe it. I can believe that he'd named his mane though :)

I'm not a fan of really thick heavy beards, so either 5 o'clock shadow or clean shave :)

I think I'd prefer a clean shaven guy. But I agree with others, it also depends on the guy.

I clean shaven. Some guys can pull of the 5 o'clock shadow and look good, but not all. Great initiative by Nivea, although I must admit I've never heard of David 'the wolfman' Williams!

I love it when a guy looks a bit rugged, this includes a bit of unshaven hair on the face. HOT!!!

I prefer men to be clean shaven. I would rather see their faces than a face full of whiskers.

I do prefer clean shaven, but i also think it depends on the bone structure of the guy as well. Some facial hair can suit certain guys, others it doesn't.

Clean shaven for sure. I do have to say that even though im not a fan of facial hair, there are some people who can pull it off.

On my hubby I much prefer when he is clean shaven. He once grew a goatie, but as he is blonde and fair skinned, nobody could even see it, and as he couldnt stop touching it, he shaved it off very quickly.

Ckean shaven, or a little bit of a shadow.. no beards thanks. They'll always remind me of the part in Harry Potter where Uncle Vernon gets a bit of egg stuck in his moustache

I would say I prefer clean shaven for my boyfriend, but when it comes to the Wolfman, there is something about that beard that is very sexy! Hope he grows it back before the 2012 season starts, he always plays better with a full face of hair, LOL.
