Blogstar entry: three tips to a skincare god

A little known fact has recently come to my attention. This astonishing fact? That as men get older, they care about their looks just as much as us women. Yup, blokes want to look good too.

It was sheer serendipity that led me to discovering this fact. After all, I’d long ago given up trying to tell my husband how he should look after his skin, so when I fast started running out of face cleanser, it took me a while to notice the reason. All became obvious when hubby stepped dripping out of the shower, tracking puddles through the house to find me and ask if my cleanser was the right kind for his skin.

Taking my cue, the next day I popped to the shops and came back with L’Oreal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Fresh Cleansing Gel and L’Oreal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Moisturising Cream. Rather than give him a lecture on what these products were and how he should use them, I simply left them in the bathroom for him to discover. And discover he did! After just a couple of weeks of using the cleanser and moisturiser, hubby’s skin tone started looking even and smooth as well as amazingly hydrated.

Both the cleansing gel and the cream are gentle enough for guys with sensitive skin to use every day. The cleanser is non-drying and the cream moisturises fantastically. He was so pleased with the results that he recently expanded his routine to include L’Oreal Men Expert Vita Lift Moisturising Cream. Creamier than the Hydra Energetic Moisturising Cream, and with Pro Retinol, this makes an excellent night cream.

So, with this success under my belt, here are my three tips for helping your man discover his inner skincare god:

  1. 1. Don’t try and push him into it, wait until he shows an interest. When he does show an interest (mild curiosity will do), grab the opportunity with both hands!
  2. 2. Compliment him on how great he looks and give credit to the skincare products e.g. “Wow, your skin looks amazing! It must be that moisturiser/cleanser you started using!”
  3. 3. Most important of all, keep his secret! Don’t let on to any of his friends who may want to tease him about using skincare products.

However, there is a downside to living with a skincare god. There is now no longer enough space in the bathroom for all of my stuff.

Good luck!
