What: La Prairie Pure Gold Radiance Facial
Where: Salon La Prairie, David Jones, Sydney
Spend: $210
Treatment time: 1 hour 30 minutes
The experience
If someone told me that I was going to have a relaxing facial in the middle of David Jones, then I’d have said there’s no such thing. Oh how wrong I was. The Salon La Prairie is best described as the wardrobe in The Chronicles of Narnia. On one side stands a bustling department store, through a sleek, silver door…a calm oasis of sheer luxury.
My treatment began with a relaxing back massage using La Prairie's rich, moisturising Skin Caviar Luxe Body Cream. Then, as I was enveloped in a towelling ‘bed’ – so warm and snugly, my therapist cleansed my face with Cellular Cleansing Water. Next up was the Cellular Balancing Mask. I loved, loved, loved this. It’s an exfoliant that has a foamy, frothy consistency as opposed to being beady. As soon as it was applied I could feel a tingling effect as it got to work, deeply detoxifying my skin. Following this, the first of two masks - Cellular Energizing Mask. As the mask was left to work its magic I received a gorgeous arm massage with Essential Exfoliator, applied dry to the skin to achieve maximum effect. I could feel the apricot beads smoothing my skin instantly.
Next up was my absolute favourite part of the treatment, a truly gorgeous and soothing eye massage using Cellular Eye Contour Cream and Essence of Skin Caviar Eye Complex. The therapist’s technique of massaging the eye area was amazing and something I’d never experienced before in a facial. The therapist then applied Cellular Hydralift Firming Mask, a rich, creamy mask that was just what my tired, dry skin needed. Whilst this was on, Skin Caviar Revitalizing Eye Mask – complete with special almond shaped eye pads – worked to target dark circles around the eyes. Meanwhile, my arms and legs were treated to a massage with Skin Caviar Luxe Body Cream.
After the mask was removed using Cellular Refining Lotion, my therapist applied Cellular Radiance Concentrate Pure Gold Serum, a “super serum” that combines positive effects from the six other serums La Prairie offers. It actually has refined particles of 24-carat gold in it! Anti-aging Emulsion With UV Filters was then applied over the top to give a double hydration boost with Cellular Radiance Eye Cream smoothed around the eye area to instantly brighten eyes. Cellular Energising Body Spray was spritzed onto the neck and chest area and around the room, this smelt divine and can be used as a body moisturiser too. My transformation was complete. But not before a glass of bubbly and a personal consultation with the therapist about an ongoing skincare regime.
Following my facial my skin was literally glowing. It had never felt so soft. And even a few hours later, I could still catch a gorgeous whiff of the Cellular Energising Body Spray. This is definitely something that I’ll be saving up to splurge on again, even if only once a year (it comes in under $5 a week). I floated out of DJs, feeling as though I’d died and gone to skincare heaven.

This sounds devine. I would def this maybe once or twice a year. I like the idea that you get a facial using the LaPrairie products and get a facial at the same time. I wonder if they have this in Melbourne?

I so wanna try that La Prairie gold serum, but alas, it costs the earth! ggrrrr.... lol I've researched the use of gold for health and beauty purposes inside out - I actually use colloidal gold topically and I put a few drops under my tongue - don't worry girls, colloidal gold is safe for ingestion... ;)

i think gold has anti-bacterial properties, that's why its in the treatment. it sounds so delish! but you'd have to walk out of DJs like an Oscar at that price lol.

Gold has an amazing anti-aging effect on the skin, it's also naturally anti-bacterial... Every cell in our body needs trace elements of gold and many other metals/minerals and sadly most of these metals and minerals are missing from our diets because the soils our foods are grown in (fruit, veg, grain) or fed by (cattle, sheep, etc) are depleted because of commercial production, over-farming, etc... And unfortunately we end-up with more problems from heavy metal toxicity - no, not loud bangin' music :) but things like mercury and iron, etc...
Where there are irregularities with cells, gold helps to 'tell' the cells (or re-align) how to correct, heal and regenerate... Gold also boosts collagen production...
There is a lot of information around on the healing and anti-aging properties of gold, silver, copper, etc... I would suggest Googling something like: Colloidal Gold anti-aging...
Colloidal Gold also helps to re-align or awaken the crown chakra facilitating meditation and ascension...

Oh how divine! It sounds like you had a wonderful time, Sarah!
I was fortunate enough to have a freebie La Prairie facial a few years back and it was spectacular. My skin glowed for about 2 weeks! I have used their products occasionally ever since (when I can afford them, which is almost never) and they really are superb. It seems crazy to be so expensive, but once you've tried them, it's hard to not go back for more.

My physiotherapist gives a pretty mean massage with Paraffin oil. It leaves the skin feeling moisturised and she mobilises joints at the same time. There may not be gold in the Paraffin, but there is in her fingers!
