Got a skin concern? Here’s the bad news: if you don’t address it, it’s only going to get worse come winter (cold winds and artificial heaters are no-one’s skin friend!). The good news is that for every skin concern you may have, we’ve got a fabulous skin solution up our sleeves. From fast-working wrinkle fillers and hard-working exfoliants, to gentle acne treatments and soothing products for your bub, we’ve got the best products picked out for winter – no matter what your skin concern may be…
I have… fine lines / wrinkles / large pores
You’ll need: A multi-tasking product that can work to instantly minimise the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and large pores, while simultaneously boosting collagen production and hydrating your skin. Lines and wrinkles become much more pronounced if your skin is dehydrated so it’s vital to choose products that keep your complexion well nourished throughout winter.
Try: John Plunkett Advanced Instant Wrinkle Filler, and Good Skin Labs Tri-Aktiline™ Instant Deep Wrinkle Filler
I have… acne / breakouts / blackheads
You’ll need: A specialised treatment for acne and/or pimples that will regulate oil production and deep cleanse your pores. Given that pimple-prone skin can often become red and inflamed (which can be made worse if you’re sitting in front of artificial heating), it’s important to choose a treatment that also soothes skin irritation, reduces redness and locks in moisture. Remember, even oily skin can become dehydrated, so don’t forego the moisturisers – especially during the chilly season!
Try: Ella Baché Ampoule Marin, and Botani Rescue Acne Cream
I have… dull skin / flaky skin
You’ll need: A super exfoliator that isn’t too harsh for your skin. If your skin tends to be dull, dry or flaky at the best of times, then it’s only going to get worse when exposed to winter’s wind and artificial heating. To ensure that your skin looks as smooth and glowing as possible, invest in a gentle cream exfoliator that will get rid of dead skin cells and brighten your skin – without stripping it of natural oils. Mild active exfoliants (ie – those that contain active enzymes and don’t require you to rub your skin) are also a good option in this instance.
Try: Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream Rinse-Off Formula, and Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
I have… sensitive skin / irritated skin / redness
You’ll need: To ensure that your skin is simultaneously soothed and protected from the elements. Winter’s harsh conditions can be a nightmare for sensitive, irritated skin, so it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re using specific non-irritant products to help get your skin’s defences in top working condition. An extra moisture shot while you’re at it will also go a long way in reducing redness and itchy skin.
Try: Natural Instinct Sensitive Bath Oil, and Avene Trixera + Selectiose Emollient Cream
I have… a baby whose skin I need to look after!
You’ll need: Something soothing, gentle on the skin and free of all nasties (we submit our skin to enough chemicals as we get older, no need to impose them on our bubs!). Opt for products containing organic ingredients, pure essential oils and known skin soothers, such as soy proteins, colloidal oatmeal and chamomile.
Try: Avado Organics Baby Natural Moisturiser, and Aveeno Active Naturals Baby Soothing Relief Creamy Wash

Lot's of tea for me, a good moisturiser and trying my best not to have too many boiling hot showers, even though I love them in winter!

Clever product suggestions here! My must have products for winter are definitely exfoliating and moisturising ones. As well as essential oils to help warm up the feel through the scent of my home :)

Gotta agree with Youarebeautiful! Hot Milo is the best. :D I just moisturise night and day, AND after showers in winter. Winter tends to make my skin really dry, so I always have to drink lots more water and keep moisturising.

I like this article a lot - I've saved it to my faves because it's a really good reference!
My must-haves this winter have so far been the Nivea Shine Control Day Moisturiser - I just can't seem to stop using it! It's so hydrating but also controls my oiliness & shine so I'm loving it.
Last night I used a gorgeous 'new' shampoo that I was given for Christmas (finally got around to using it!). It's the Innoxa Lavender Conditioning Shampoo and true to the label it is wonderful for my hair! It smells like I'm in a garden of lavender while I'm washing my hair and my hair feels amazing today - really silky and healthy - I'm quite surprised! I'll be thanking my brother for his gorgeous Christmas present again when I see him!

Thanks for the great suggestions! I've been noticing a lot of extra redness in my cheeks lately & I'm hoping it's the harsh weather to blame!

I know you aren't meant to exfoliate as much in winter as it exposes your skin to the elements. HOWEVER... I have an addiction to exfoliating and i just cannot bring myself to stop. I love my skin feeling soft and clean and the only way this happens is to give it a good old scrub. Winter mantra: minimise exfoliation and DON'T STOP WEARING SUNSCREEN. Just because the sun isnt out doesnt mean damage doesnt happen.

Great reference for staying beautiful all through winter! I tried an olive oil treatment on my hair over the weekend and it has made my dry ends feel a lot more silky. It's wonderful having beauty answers at my fingertips, thanks to all the great articles on Beautyheaven:)

Fabulous article. Saved it to my favourites for future reference. Thanks bh!
I love the point that although you have oily, it is still very important to moisturise. I've made that mistake plenty of times, but I've realised how imperative it is.

I have to keep my hands covered with QV cream or they just spit and bleed. This is the only one of all my moisturiser that works on my hands at this time of year. in warmer months I don't suffer this problem and can use lighter cream.

In winter i make sure that i always have my moisturiser for all of me...and by that i mean some for my face...and for my lips...and also for my whole body. As your body gets dried as its kept in layers of clothing. And subjected to different heat temperatures...so it dries out . I also make sure that i have my hair treatments on hand as hair also needs extra care in the winter...as it does in the summer. So its moisturies from top to toe. And lip blams..and body hydrating lotion

My trusty Chapstick with SPF15 and a good tinted moisturiser. I adore Lancome's Hydra Zen Teinte with SPF15, pricey, but fab!! I'm also would highly recommend Derm's Daily Microfoilant. I'll be using mine this winter. Bodywise, it's St Ives Green Tea Scrub followed by a slather of St Ives's soothing body lotion. Mmm! That should keep my skin in tip top shape for spring! : )

I have pulled out an old faithful as of late, because my oily skin has amazingly improved, so much so that for the first time ever, it actually needs a bit of extra hydration this winter. I am loving my Alpha-H Advanced Hydration, which was once a bit too rich for my skin, yet these days my skin is loving it and drinks it right up. Perfect for a nourishing night moisturiser when I want a break from some of my more potent skin care products :)

Dull, flaky skin and redness definitely apply to me. I use face scrub and hydrating mask twice a week...and lots of moisturiser from top to bottom.
