Looking a little off-colour

Q) "My foundation always turns orange after about an hour of wear. I’ve tried a few different foundations and they all do this. Why?" – Pagan, WA
A) "Very, very good question! I can absolutely answer this one! Your make-up may be turning orange because you have a high level of acidity in your skin. I bet your lip colours change after you apply them, too.
"I have found the best way to combat this is by using a light or tinted moisturiser type of foundation. MAC Face and Body [Stockists: 03 9825 0101] is fantastic. Just remember: the more foundation you put on, the more noticeable the colour change will be, so don't be heavy-handed. Also try applying a little bit of translucent powder over the top – this might help minimise the colour change as well." – Yolanda Lukowsi, make-up artist
Bh skincare tip:
It might be worth visiting a beauty therapist to assess the state of your skin's pH. If your acid mantle is out of whack, they will be able to point you toward products that can help restore a healthy balance (a slightly acidic pH 5.5).
Buys to try:
The Alpha-H range features products to restore pH balance to all skin types
Pevonia Botanica Balancing Combination Skin Fundamental Care Cream, $73
Sebamed skincare specialises in maintaining ideal pH performance

Altering your diet too can help with skin acidity. Google Alkaline Diets, they are pretty easy to follow because they contain lots of natural healthy unprocessed foods. Our bodies become too acidic from alcohol, sugar, preservatives, artificial additives, processed/packaged and fast foods... Food for thought! lol ;)

Gee I never knew skin was so different between people that acidity levels would differ so much. Proves that there's no such thing as one size fits all...

Wow - you learn something new every day! I just assumed we all had the same skin pH - I didn't know it could change enough to affect your make up.

Who knew?! That's a great tip to keep in mind. It will save alot of people from buying and turfing out foundations thinking that they are the problem. Might also explain why some girls seem to get foundation colours so wrong - maybe it just didn't look that orange at home!!! Must be so frustrating. I am filing this one away for future reference.

Wow! I just thought orange people were the result of bad foundation picking or fake tans gone wrong! I'll sound smart next time I mention it to friends =)

Yes I've found that a particular brand especially changed colour on me - the lipsticks would always get bright and yucky!! I don't buy that brand anymore. I found that no other brands lipsticks changed colour - just the one brand. Maybe they used something that other brands didn't and it was reacting to my own acidity.

Hi! I had this problem too, but I did not know about the pH factor! My solutions were:
* pack a soft white pencil in my bag and dot lightly on the orange areas and blend.
* reapply powder(I use a shade lighter than my normal foundation)
* start with a green-tinted primer ... there are even sunscreens that go on green
