Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest (and weirdest) beauty treatment

Guys, Gwyneth is at it again and this time the beauty treatment she’s endorsing isn’t even legal in the US. We all know to take everything Gwyneth says with a pinch of (very expensive) salt (remember that time she said the sun wasn’t bad for you?) and we know her skin care routines are ah … questionable, but the latest post on her blog, Goop has our stomachs turning.

It’s called ‘Facial Threading’ and Gwyneth describes it in her blog as, “inserting a tiny – sometimes barbed – thread into the face (or knees, or neck, or…) and carefully pulling up the skin to create a natural-looking lift that’s not at all Botox-y.” Yep, you read correctly – sometimes barbed thread.

The thread used in the treatment is sugar thread that dissolves in the skin and stimulates collagen production. The treatment is said to last for two years and improve the skin’s appearance by 50 per cent with (apparently) no side effects. If you want to try it out you’ll have to jump on a plane to London or Paris because the treatment is yet to be FDA approved in the US. Speaking to Allure, plastic surgeon James Stuzin warned against the procedure after treating patients who needed repairs after undergoing facial threading. He explained that the barbed thread can cause the skin to sag after a few months.

So, while we’re big fans of Gwyneth’s fave beauty buys and her stunning make-up looks, the jury’s still out on facial threading!

Would you try facial threading? What other non-Botox-y treatments have you tried?
