Honey, I shrunk the zits

I’ve always had a funny relationship with my skin. I wouldn’t say I’ve ever had acne, but my skin has never been strong enough to bypass a breakout.
Throughout my teenage years I disregarded my spotty, unpredictable skin as solely an adolescent thing that would surely clear up as I got older… and what I’ve realised over the past couple of years is that sometimes it’s not just a teenage thing. It’s about looking after your complexion, properly, with products that you can trust. Because sometimes beauties, the environmental elements are just are far too harsh for our skin to go it alone.
In my years in this gig, I’ve stumbled across a few little face-savers that I keep near and dear – and I feel it only fair to share them with you…
First, here’s a fact: an oldie but a goldie – if you keep your skin clean, you have far less chance of breaking out. No bacteria = no blemishes. Simple.
Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clearing Concealer – this multi-tasking maestro is perfect for concealing and treating those pesky pimples that feel it necessary to pop into plain view just as you’re heading out the door.
Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser is great for cooling down those angry, red spots that taunt you by stinging your face all day.
One of my biggest bugbears is scarring from my too-young-to-know-better squeeze-happy days. My saving grace is Neutrogena Rapid Clear 2-in-1 Fight & Fade Spot Gel as it works to fight any current blemishes while disguising the old ones. Nifty eh?

What’s is your worst breakout story?

My skin is just like yours Olivia, not acne prone but a pimple or two could be so bothersome. A nasty pimple is the first thing that proves Murphy's Law for me! I get them before all big days, interviews, parties....so frustrating!

I love the sound of Clinique's - it conceals and works on the pimple! Sadly most of my pimples are hormonal, so I can wash my all face all I'd like and they still come up.

Having my hormones flare up before something important - and fast forward to me standing in front of the mirror attempting to fight and hide them!!

Great article, Olivia. I'll keep these products in mind, when I'm next on spot watch!

when I was a teen I thought I'd go out and buy an anti-ageing product. the ingredients were more suited to a mature aged skin and I broke out in spots, redness and basically a really sore unattractive face.

ugh i'm having hormone issues at the moment and my skin is worse than when I was a teenager!! But thanks for the tip about the clinique concealer - i love the idea of a two-in-one treatment.

Yes those good old hormones will do it every time!! My worst breakout story is getting real acne in my mid-20's! Thankyou science-world for Roaccutane - it was my Knight in Shining Armour! Absolutely nothing helped my acne in my 20's except for that wonderful treatment. Thank goodness my GP put me onto an excellent Skin Specialist (who happens to now be a professor in his field!) who put me straight onto that great 'stuff'. It was the biggest relief to see my acne disappear. It gave me my confidence and self-esteem back to me.

I don't really have a worst breakout story. We all have pretty good skin in my family. I might just get the odd spot if I'm stressed or if a certain foundation wasn't the right one for my skin.

Sigh, my skin is the same Olivia, I religiously wash, apply serum, eye cream & moisturiser, but I still have the odd breakout! Usually just when I've got something planned.......
I am loving the Dr.LeWinns Medic Spot Clear Gel, it truly does work! Just the other morning I woke up with a nasty pimple on my chin, usually this would ruin my day, but I just applied a bit of Dr.LeWinns Magical lotion onto my chin & it was seriously gone by 9.30am!!! I was so shocked.....

My breakouts have improved drastically ever since I started taking the pill. Now I only get the occasional small breakouts. I swear by Payot Pate Grise, the only thing that makes my pimples come to a whitehead quickly (usually by next morning) then heal fast. Don't know how I lived without it.

My whole life is the worst breakout story. I'm in my early 30's and I'm still breaking out like a teenager. Benzoyl peroxide, tretinoin and being on the pill helps my skin. Hydroquinone fades my post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Salicylic Acid is too weak to do anything for my skin.

My breakout-O-meter is just mild and the Neutrogena spot get works well for me =) Also to prevent bacteria on your face causing more pimples don't touch your face! That's my 2 cents

I don't get to many pimples, never really have. Great products mentioned above for people who do get them.

I hate breakouts - they happen here and there - I like the sound of the neutrogena - may be something I need to try!

Then you're one of the lucky ones hot chillies. When I was in High School, I was hoping that the breakouts would stop but now I realise I get pimples when I'm stressed, like if an exam is coming up or if I haven't been sleeping well. I also cleanse, tone and moisturise twice every day. And try to pop a clay mask once a week to unclog those unsightly pores!!!

These products sound good. Will keep an eye out for the neutrogena one... I get breakouts and they can be really painful and embarassing so anything to try and hide/stop them I'm willing to try!!!! My chin area is the worst! and the awful T zone! :P

I only have had the odd break out, nothing too terrible, though I have noticed that if anything it seems to be a hormonal thing

What’s is your worst breakout story? I love the Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser, it works so well for me! My worst breakout story is definitely the time that I woke up with a major zit on my chin the day of my school formal! Even the make up artist couldn't cover it completely, so I still had a noticeable bump!

Can't think of a worst breakout story, but at this stage in life hormonal breakouts are my main battle. Somehow my skin can be glowing and day of a special event, bam, breakout arrives! arrgghh!

I'm glad I don't get big zits anymore but when I was a teenager I'd get horribly painful blind ones on my chin and of course I couldn't leave them alone so they would end up looking like a big red, scabby blotch!

My wedding day of course. 24 years on and we are still going strong so that was the only bad luck I had that day.
