Six of the best: kitchen cupboard remedies

Are you a maestro at make-it-yourself-masks? Perhaps you pride yourself in your at-home face polishes? Or maybe you think an avocado has more nourishing properties than any hydrating skin moisturiser?
If you’ve answered yes to any of those questions, you sound like a fresh food beauty. You know, a do-it-yourself kind of girl, that wouldn’t sweat it if she discovered she was out of shampoo, she’d simply reach into her pantry and pull out a kitchen cupboard remedy…
Here’s our pick of six of the best scrumptious skin and hair care recipes – brought to you by your fellow members!

xCherrybliss’ lemon remedy for acne-prone skin
You’ll need:
- Lemons
- Water
Like most teenagers, I suffer from acne and I find this method works the best for my skin every single time. It’s a quick fix and definitely one of the cheapest treatments to which anyone from anywhere can have access.
1.) To begin, simply dilute fresh lemon juice with water, I have combination skin, which isn't very sensitive, so I mix two parts lemon juice to one part water. If your skin is more sensitive or this solution is too strong for you, dilute with more water.
2.) Next, soak a cotton pad into the solution for half a minute (or until the cotton pad is fully soaked).
3.) Slowly take it out from the solution and apply it straight to your pimple.
4.) Leave it there for 20 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.
This is great because you can apply the mixture directly onto your pimple, making it work like an acne patch. You instantly see that the pimple is less swollen and gradually the size of it will also reduce.
What is your best treatment for acne?

Tea Tree Oil works really well on acne. Drop some on a cotton ball and dab on the pimples each morning and night after cleanse, tone, moisturise. Tones down redness and helps reduce the swelling to eventually make them disappear within a week.

Cherrybliss this is great. I sometimes will take the wet pulp and put it directly on the acne and remove the pulp when it dries.

I tried lemon on my skin and it stung terribly, I have been a bit hesitant to use it ever since. I guess it depends on how sensitive your skin is and it is always wise to remember even natural ingredients can cause sensitive skin to react so it is wise to always patch test first :)

I use a similar method, but with Aspirin instead of lemon. Dissolve one Aspirin tablet in a cup of chilled water, soak a cotton ball in the solution, place on your blemish and leave for about 20 to 30 minutes. Redness and swelling is instantly reduced.

Lemons are also a terrific hair-lightener! My Nan used to wash Dad's hair in lemon juice for years... it was a gorgeous colour!!

How simple and awesome. My great granfather had a lemon tree in his backyard and he was always loading me with fresh lemons to take home from when I was around 8 years old. He would tell me to squeeze a quarter of lemon juice into a glass of lukewarm water every morning and I would always be healthy and beautiful. Lucky, I love Lemons. He live into his 90's so maybe there was some truth in his theory. He was also recyling and composting everything way back then. A sensible noble man.
