What’s fragrance layering?

Want a one-of-a-kind signature scent? Try fragrance layering! Fragrance layering involves layering two different fragrances over the top of one another to create a kind of hybrid scent or signature perfume. It’s highly effective when done properly. To get it right, opt for complimentary scents: layer a woody perfume with a perfume with strong vanilla or coconut notes and try mixing a fruity scent with a floral scent for a fun, playful smell. Spray one pump of each scent into the air at the same time then walk through the mist. Voila! Your own hybrid scent!
Guys can layer too. Try combining an oceanic scent with a woody fragrance and see what you come up with. If your partner says "Eww, what's that smell?" take that as a sign that it's back to the drawing board but don't give up!

I think this would work well with essential oils but not so much with designer ones as they are layered already

I love doing this. Often I'll spray one perfume in the morning and then later in the day, layer with another fragrance. It works well.

Great idea and so simple. I'd need to try it out at home first to make sure the choices didn't clash!

I find that scented body lotions don't seem to be very moisturising. I normally moisturise and then add on the scented lotion

Sounds like fun! Might backfire if not done properly. I think the Jo Malone scents are for layering so I might start with those.

Argh! I do this all the time and I thought I was a freak, I'm so happy it's an actual thing. My roll on deodorant has a really slight, delicate floral smell, I use cocoa or shea butter on my body (or sometimes something divine from LUSH), sandalwood on pressure points (behind ears, mid-section lymph nodes) and then whatever perfume I feel fits the day. I often alter the perfume choice if I happen to wearing a spray-on conditioner for my hair, so they better complement one another.
My fiancé said the second thing he noticed about me after my smile was my smell. I encourage people to have a go - nobody else will smell like you, you'll be more unique and feel more confident and sexy for it!

I always thought layering meant using the same perfume in different forms on the body, my lesson for the day.

Jo Malone offers a perfume layering system - Fragrance Chronicle. You get 4 fragrances in the chronicle set and can combine the original set with it's three accompanying accords to create a unique fragrance. Fun!
