Not all scents are created equal. Here's the lowdown on the different types of fragrance created for women:
Perfume – Also called extractor extrait, this is the strongest and longest-wearing form of fragrance. It contains the highest proportion scented concentrate (usually essential oil or a synthetic compound) at 15-40 per cent. Worn sparingly on pulse points.
Eau de parfum (EDP) – With approximately 10- 30 per cent scent concentrate, this is often, mistakenly, called perfume.
Eau de toilette (EDT)– Less intense than an EDP, with only one to six per cent of scent concentrate, this won't linger as long as a stronger fragrance but can be worn more liberally.
Cologne – Not just for guys, this contains two to three per cent scent concentrate and can be splashed all over the body.

It's a pity that I haven't been able to find the most common fragrances in perfume form.
I have a perfume that my mum bought before I was born and it lasts for such a long time. I've mostly have eau de parfum's and the scent doesn't last as long :(

Elunia, you need to discover Le Reve. They stock 'perfume' also known as parfum in lots of great fragrances and at great prices! Check them out online http://www.lereve.com.au/perfume

This is great, I've always known to buy EDP but I've never really known exactly why - someone just said it lasts longer. Funny how we usually call the first three perfum though!

It is all about what the consumer wants I think. Also these days there are so many brands also. A bit like chemistry isn't it with different compound structures. I still like to try most varieties. ###Sandra

I always wondered what 'Eau De Toilette' meant. Thanks for this! Now I know to look what to look for if I'm seeking something with a stronger, longer-lasting fragrance :)
