Mum’s the word: products for little people

If you love beauty there’s a fair chance your little ones will be interested in those potions and lotions that you try so desperately to keep away from their grubby little mitts.
And let’s face it, when your motto is ‘caring is sharing’ (Read: give that truck back to your brother pronto or I’ll send you to your bedroom!) and your daughter skips into the bathroom saying, “mum, can I try that cream,” it goes against your teachings to say “no, it’s mine!” – even if those are the words that come to mind.
So in the spirit of practicing what I preach, I’ve found myself sharing my $100 skin cream – just a smidgen, of course – and then promptly putting the cream on the highest shelf I can find! (Mental note: use the cheap moisturiser when the kids are around.)
But that was before I found some products for little people, of which there are many. Here are just a few of my current must-haves:
QV Kids Balm sits on my bathroom shelf right next to my favourite body lotion so that instead of stealing my moisturiser my little one lavishly covers herself (and the bathroom towels) in her own kid-friendly cream.
Sukin Kids 0-8 is a new range of gentle yet fun bath and body products for children. Its Ruby Recycle Hand Wash is a great way of getting rid of grubby mitts while encouraging environmentally-friendly behaviour. It’s never too early to teach kids eco activities!
Sending your children off to daycare or school with hair that resembles a bird’s nest can be a little cringe-worthy, but when attempting to get a brush through their hair becomes a boring morning battle it’s often the only option (if you want an easy life, that is). At least that was before I discovered Paul Mitchell Taming Spray. This is the hero in my life. A spritz on dry or damp hair makes brushing their locks a walk in the park.

What beauty products do your littlies love?

My 6 yo niece absolutely adores my bronzer brush and delicately 'feathers' her face with it before looking proudly in the mirror and asking me if looks pretty. I also catch her rummaging through my beauty draw in the bathroom looking for my Burts Bees products (she thinks the Bumble Bee packaging means it's for her) lol!!!

My 2.5yo daughter absolutely loves playing with my brushes! She knows which brush is used on which part of the face, she loves eye shadows and blush and she LOVES her "lipbun" (lipstick/gloss/balm/whatever I'm wearing that day!). She's very girly in that way and tells me a lot "mummy, I really like make up" which is adorable of course :)) She always wants me to put stuff on her face so when I'm putting something on myself I'll pretend to put it on her (when I don't have anything left on my finger of course), it does the trick every time and she feels like she's a part of it :))

My girls love playing with nailpolish & lipstick (playing means within the house)! My eldest who is nearly 13 loves her cleanser, toner and moisturiser, Neutrogena Stress Scrub and pimple gels. My 10 year old loves anything pink - bright pink that is! She quickly claims anything that's bright pink as hers (including my Australis lippy that came in my Glosscars prize pack!). When she's 16 she might be allowed to wear it outside these walls!!!! My 6 year old likes it when I use a detangler in her hair and loves to play with my nail polishes when she catches me using them too. It's really hard to get away with doing my nails on my own around here - it usually ends up that all four of us 'girls' are having a nail-painting session!
Masks? Did I mention masks? If I'm having a mask and my 10 year sees me, she always asks, "Is that a peeling one?" She loves peeling masks!

Both of my two tots know all about "makeup girl" as they call it. We have had a couple of incidents where they have been caught from head to toe painted in my favourite makeup, with the rest of it all over the floor, which resulted in tears all round. Since those times I have become more diligent about packing all my good stuff up high, and packed into draws etc out of little fingers reach. But everyday when I am applying my daily face, lol, they are right there watching me asking what each product is called. Their favourite is definitely "Lips"as they call it, I always give my girl (2 years) some pretty pink gloss or balm, she knows exactly how to pucker up and smack her lips together afterwards too, lol. My boy (3 years) not wanting to be left out asked me for some "Boy Lips" so I have to put some clear balm on him, normally something yummy and fruity like my Burts Bee's Passionfruit or Nivea Coconut scented balms, hehe. Its all in good fun. I have only once put a bit of eyeshadow on my girl, and they always like being tickled with my powder brush. They have also spotted me doing my nails and are keen to get in on the action so I just normally do one nail each Nylese, my daughter likes pinks or purples and Jarvyn,my boy wants "Boy One's" lol so he picks a blue or green shade, lol. That is pretty much it, my daughter though I can see her getting right into it as she gets older, honestly I doubt she has much choice she is my daughter after all, haha, and like Mother like Daughter ;)

My daughter never had the slightest interest in makeup or skincare until about a year ago - she's 12.5 now. Even now, she just likes to play with a bit of mascara. She's more into perfume.

Special and expensive products on the highest shelf is a good plan! Perfumes, lippies and creamy lotions are what most littlies I know go for in my collection. My substitute nephew even was keen on my lippies so i had to suggest its not really for boys! (at his age anyway, he can decide that later)

My 3 yo daughter is a beautyheaven wannabe already. She comes in the bathroom when Im getting ready and asks can I have some of that.... she has her own lip balm and gets my empty containers to play with... she has an empty compact with a sponge, a couple of face brushes and her Avon little blossoms nail polish. Sometimes she can get naughty though, two days in a row I have caught her with something she shouldn't have. The day before yesterday she was found in her room with a big pump bottle of sorbelene and a spray bottle of sunscreen happily lathering herself and the carpet with both and yesterday she was hiding under the dining table with a jar of vaseline and a very icky face and hands! She hasn't learnt the lesson of sometimes less is more!

My daughter loves wearing blush and bronzer, so when I put it on myself I have to do her face next.. She is also addicted to lip balms, especially lip smackers and burt's bees, she says to me "It's time for my lips" and gets it out of her little handbag and puts it on.. I love it, it's just soo adorable.

My 23 month old daughter is a big fan of Mummy's lipsticks haha. I have to say I am very proud of her application skills though. I have decided to laugh it off instead of get angry about it because she just wants to copy what I do and chances are, I did exactly the same thing at her age. She also pinches my make up brushes and pretends to apply make up hehe
